Santana isn't anywhere near being a FA.

I'm telling you if the Yanks don't win the WS this year they will make a run at Pedro and Beltran. And if Giambi's health is still in question they will go after Delgado.

You are right, I was guess I misunderstood this article from a few months back.

"Santana, making $1.6 million this season, will certainly command a much larger salary in 2005 — whether through arbitration again or possibly in a multiyear contract."

Them throwing in the multiyear contract statement made me think that he would be FA.

From what I understand it, we get a chance to sign him for 1 more year, then he is fa?

I'm not an expert at MLB contracts but I believe you aren't a "unrestricted" FA until you have 6 years of full service time. It's gets complicated because sometimes players have Super 2 Status (not in Johan's case though).

I feel like the Twins are better off giving him a one year deal just to prove this CY Young season wasn't a fluke before locking him up long term.

Look at Zito, he was lights out when he won the CY but he hasn't been as dominant since.

As far as I'm concerned Beltran is already in pinstripes. As for Pedro, I'll be shocked if he doesn't resign with Boston.
