What will be interesting if they change their name and uniforms with this move.

I'm moving to the D.C. area in a few months so that means I'll have a team closer than the Orioles to see next season.

As others have mentioned Loria was not a good owner. The Expos actually had solid attendence numbers right up til the strike hit them. They weren't great attendence numbers but it was still somewhat financially viable. The fans just got tired of the team giving away their star players and when the promise of a new outdoor stadium was broken well that broke the camel's back.

It IS a sad day for baseball. You don't want to see franchises moving no matter how bad the situation is. The Expos departure could probably lead to such a decline in Canadian baseball that potentially the Jays would be forced to move at some point. (this idea is a bit far-fetched but Jays president Paul Godfrey has expressed this opinion)

I hope that Washington can finally support a team as that market was never a good baseball market. The only real reason why they're going back to DC is because of politicians in the area wanting a team there.

by the way that was a nice reaction by the some in the crowd - throwing golf balls, other debris, & booing the American anthem.. maybe if more than 3 -5,000 showed up to games the Expos could have stayed - but it was also bad that MLB ran the team for the past two years also...

Don't blame the city over a few stupid "fans" the majority of fans in Montreal are not like that.

As for Washington being a good or bad market....It has historically been a bad market. We may see people packing the stadium for the next few years but i'm willing to wager that the DC franchise will be a middle market club.

Two reason Baseball will be successful

                        1) The population has doubled since last team left

                        2) Mass Transit ( The team before didn't have thay luxury)

If its a middle market club it will be because whoever buys the team won't spend money!!

The NBA basketball has been bad for years and its support by the city..
