He's sixteen points off what I consider acceptable nowadays, but thats just my opinion.
Thanks to 107 walks Dunn's OBP is .387 which is two points higher than his own teammate Sean Casey who has a .AVG of .327... he's also 11th in slugging and 11th in overall OPS (on-base plus slugging)... if anything this record is a testament of how overrated strikeouts are both by batters and for pitchers because Dunn is having a very good season.

Ask greg Maddux what he would rather have, a first-pitch groundout to second or an eight pitch K... a pitcher keeping his pitch-count down is key to his success in the later innings, and considering Dunn's high ammount of both K's and Walks he does a very good job of taking pitchers deep into the count. Sure, his eye could use improvement, but he is already one of the best 15 or so hitters in the NL and the stats back it up.

There's a reason the greatest strikeout pitcher in MLB history (Nolan Ryan) never won a CY YOUNG... K's are simply not a good indicator of how games are won or lost.

The guy is pretty young, so I am guessing that he will become a little more disciplined hopefully. If he does this and raises his batting avg 15-20 pts at least and the reds have a decent season, he could be an mvp candidate for sure. McGwire's career ba is .263 as well, so we may also be seeing another McGwire type player if Dunn doesnt change much. I think Dunn is better defensively though. Doesnt he have a cannon?

By your logic of having to hit at least 280 Thome, Hunter, Vernon Wells, Chavez, Piazza, and Andruw Jones are all pretty weak. I think 263 is not weak, but there is definately room for improvement. Not starting to start a fight, I just wanna know what you think.

                    .250 and lower is weak
                    .260 is okay
                    .270 is solid
                    .280 is good
                    .290 is great
                    .300 is excellent

Yeah, but none of these guys are known for pure contact. Thome, Piazza, and Chavez are usually higher, but injuries have gotten to Piazza and Chavez. Jones is notorious for not coming up with a hit and instead, a strikeout, so his avg. is understandable. Wells, I dont know much about him as I dont get to watch Toronto games, and same goes for Hunter, so I dont know the problem.

I don't know, I can have faith in someone around .280 and above (not to say I cant for someone below that), just for some reason, dont really know why.

And Mark Bellhorn has struck out 174 times this year and he was on the DL for 18 days. He could of easily been the guy to get to this dubious record first. I still don't know why the Red Sox got rid of Todd Walker....

Good point and Dunn isnt a contact hitter either, i think that I would rather have the guy who has the chance to hit the longball instead of the single, because there is a good chance he will be walked and if he is pitched to he may hit a home run or he may strikeout but i would take my chances with the slugger. But thats just my opinion and I am not saying mine is the best
