Wells, I dont know much about him as I dont get to watch Toronto games, and same goes for Hunter, so I dont know the problem.

I don't know, I can have faith in someone around .280 and above (not to say I cant for someone below that), just for some reason, dont really know why.
Good point and Dunn isnt a contact hitter either, i think that I would rather have the guy who has the chance to hit the longball instead of the single, because there is a good chance he will be walked and if he is pitched to he may hit a home run or he may strikeout but i would take my chances with the slugger. But thats just my opinion and I am not saying mine is the best

All Adam Dunn does, is one of three things.

Hit a home run, get walked, or strikeout.

1/3 of his hits are HRs, he walked over 100 times in 500 at bats, and he is getting close to 200 strike outs.

He's sixteen points off what I consider acceptable nowadays, but thats just my opinion.
The difference between hitting .280 and .260 for a player with 500 at bats is 10 hits. Kind of puts things in perspective, doesn't it?

Give Dunn a break. He's 24. With age comes patience, familiarity with game situations and what pitches to expect, and overall exposure to pitchers and learning their tendencies.

Bobby Bonds set the strike out record when he was 24 as well and he never came within 40 K's of that many again. Even the great Mike Schmidt struck out 180 times when he was 25.

Dunn is a good player. Yes, he does strike out a lot, but he also walks a ton, and his on base plus slugging percentage is very high. He certainly helps his team more than he hurts it.

Ask greg Maddux what he would rather have, a first-pitch groundout to second or an eight pitch K... a pitcher keeping his pitch-count down is key to his success in the later innings, and considering Dunn's high ammount of both K's and Walks he does a very good job of taking pitchers deep into the count. Sure, his eye could use improvement, but he is already one of the best 15 or so hitters in the NL and the stats back it up.

There's a reason the greatest strikeout pitcher in MLB history (Nolan Ryan) never won a CY YOUNG... K's are simply not a good indicator of how games are won or lost.
Well said. Most people aren't aware about how often he walks. I think the stat also came out this week that he's just the second Reds player (Joe Morgan in '76 was the first, an NL MVP year for him, I believe) to have 100 walks, 100 RBI's, and 100 runs scored in the same season. Pretty impressive. Dunn is only going to get better. Despite the fact that as a team they've struck out close to 1300 times this year, Chris Chambliss will get them all straightened out. One disturbing thing for me this year with Dunn was how often he struckout with guys in scoring position. He probably should be at 120 RBI's for the year at least. That part was frustrating to watch all season. But, he will get better and become even more of a force in the NL.

Re: Adam Dunn sets a new record!!!

Adam Dunn is just getting started. He's putting up good HR and walk numbers and he doesn't even know how to hit yet. His problem is hitting when he behind in the count. Paradoxically if he got caught looking more, he would strike out less. He knows the strike zone he just need to not expand it so much when he's down in the count. He's not a good "bad" ball hitter like Vladimir Guererro(SP?) Vlad can hit a ball off his shoe tops. A.D. should rarely expand his zone. If the pitcher can get that strike call just off the plate then A.D. will just have to grab some bench. He'll be fine once he stops swinging at the pitchers pitch so much.

I think Dunn will always strike-out a lot also because of his height and how that's related not only in a larger strike-zone but the length of his swing... whatever, he's had a great season and is a bonafied all-star INHO... if you guys want to dog him because of his K's go ahead but it only shows your ignorance of the game. I'd take Adam anyday for my team as long as that OPS is up there in the 800s.
