He is overrated because he makes 18.5+ million a year.

As good as he is, he's worth about half of that, at most.

I for one can't believe Nathan was left in there that long.

It was a great example of how emotions can skew the decisions made by a manager.

I don't care if a guy has 1000 saves...If he's thrown 8 consecutive balls in his third inning of work in Yankee Stadium- I take him out!

Sorry, I just read "Moneyball" and am nitpicking perhaps at anything that sounds like "old time thinking".

Yeah same here. I would have brought in a new pitcher at the beginning of that inning

You don't watch much baseball, do you? If you still think Jeter is overrated because of his salary, you need to take the Yankee ***** blinders off. The guy might not post the stats of some of the other shortstops in the league, but the guy is clutch. And he's a winner. There's more to a player's worth than his stats. Case in point is the leadoff HR against Radke. They hadn't scored a run in about 18 innings in the postseason, the Twins scored a run in the top of the first, and what does he do? He puts one in the black seats to get them going. Unfortunately, we live in a stats based/fantasy based world these days. All people look at are numbers to determine a player's worth. There's a lot more to it than that. I'm not saying he's worth 18.5 million, because no one is worth that much, but to say he's overrated because of it is a little short-sighted.

                  I'd agree.
Jeter is the heart and soul of the Yankees organization. In a crucial playoff situation, there's nobody more clutch than Derek Jeter.
I'd rather pitch to Gary Sheffield or ARod with the game on the line, than face Jeter.

Adding to the Jeter comments, it has to be remembered that he received his current contract at the time when owners were throwing out all that Monopoly money. Arod, Manny, Kevin Brown, Chan Ho, Sosa, Jeter, and quite a few others all received rediculous contracts at about the same time. Arod's contract in particular forced Jeter's figure to go way up.

                      Anway...

Amazing game, as amazing as it can get for ending up on the losing end. I was on the edge of my seat from the 7th inning on. Gardenhire, poor pitching management. Bringing Nathan out for the 12th was a good idea, but leaving him in after he was obviously gassed was not. Both Crain and Romero should have been warming up immediately at the start of the inning, ready to come in the instant they were needed, which should have been after the Cairo walk.

Back to Minny, see you Friday.

I thought the game should have never went to extra innings.

Gardenhire was a moron for letting Kubel bat against Rivera in the top of the 8th with men on second and third, with just one out.
The kid was in AA ball at the beginning of the season, now he's in a pressure packed situation against the best closer in MLB postseason history!

I would have pinch hit Lew Ford. Gardenhire left Kubel in, and Rivera made the kid look silly on three straight pitches. The last two were 2 feet out of the strike zone!

That was Gardenhire? I thought it was Grady Little.

Ok, ok. I don't blame him for having Nathan up for the third inning, I mean the guy is a former starter and you have to do things like that in the post-season, but would you atleast have someone warming up in the pen? Romero? Mulholland? Crain? Anybody.

Another question, why was Kubel even in the lineup? What has he even done to start over Lew Ford? Sure, Kubel hit well for a month at the end of the season, but Lew Ford has been hitting well the entire season?

And what was Jaque Jones doing out there? How can you not be ready to make a throw? That was just awful. Just making Jeter look better than he is...baffoon I say! Bafffffffoooon!
