This complicates both rotations for if the series goes to a seventh game. New York has the option of skipping Hernandez and holding him over for a possible game 7 but Mel Stottlemeyer didn't seem too thirlled about that. His reasoning being that they really don't know what to expect from El Duque since he hasn't pitched in awhile and they'd rather have him out there in a game 4 rather than a game 7.
Boston has the option of starting either Pedro or Lowe should the series go 5 innings. I think if Boston is down 3-1 they go with Pedro in that situation and if the series is tied at 2 apiece then they go with Lowe in Fenway. The wildcard in that is the possibility of Curt Schilling pitching again in this series. He had an encouraging bullpen session today with a high top shoe on that ankle but the Red Sox aren't saying anything about it right now as they have to wait and see how his ankle responds tomorrow. This means Curt could pitch a game 6 or 7 and if the series goes 7 I think he'd want to give it a go if it is at all possible. If they don't get Schilling back we're looking at Boston starting Arroyo in game 7 on short rest.
Right now though, with the Red Sox down 0-2, game seven doesn't seem likely so there isn't much need to speculate further. We'll just have to see how tomorrow's game goes.
