What would they tell the people who stayed up? What about the people at the park? "Sorry it's after 1:30 we're not going to finish the game. We know you paid all this money to see a winner but we promise to play the rest tommorrow."?

No chance they stop the game. It goes till somebody wins.
So if they went into 40 innings they wouldnt stop the game, which would probably be like 15 hours. You've gotta be kidding me. It's simple, just finish it the next day.

I mean they postpone games because of rain, why cant they just wait for the rain to clear up instead of postponing it?

I wish it was going on that long.......I'd LOVE to watch a game that goes 20 innings or so like that.....just to see history.

There has been at least one instance where a game was suspended because it went on too long and was resumed the next day. I don't remember who the teams were, but I believe its the longest game in MLB history. To my knowlege, no postseason game has ever been halted, unless the Gophers had a game scheduled later on that night.

Had it been a regular season game it could have been stopped and then resumed the next day but post season games go untili its over. 5 innings or 35 innings it does not end until the winning run crosses the plate or the final out is made in the bottom of the inning. Same for weather, the Cards and Stros would have been postponed had it been in summer but the post season made sure that game got in. The Sox-Yanks would have played Fri but there was no relief in sight from the rain and it was supposed to get worse.

Even if the Sox take this series back to Yankee Stadium, I don't think they'll win it all. The odds are definitely stacked against them for one.

If they do win today, but lose in the Bronx, would they be relieved that the Yankees didn't clinch at Fenway? I don't think they should.. the object, is after all, to win. You can't say 'we're happy they clinched in the Bronx instead of on our home turf.'

Of course.. with today's pitching matchup.. it's going to be VERY difficult for the Sox to take this series back to the Bronx.

Mussina vs. Pedro.. sure, Pedro can give you five good innings.. but can he go after that? Both bullpens are pretty beat.. it's gonna come down to who can get to the pen first, and I think the Yankees will see the Sox pen first.

i remember a game between san fran and the braves(i think?) at atlanta i think back in 92. A regular season game which went to the 23rd inning or something. I kept seeing "stay tuned for Sportscenter...Next".....and at around 3 am and in the 19th inning, i just got tired and went to bed.

I have no idea at what time they finished, but it was played till the very end.

Can anyone explain to me why they didn't pitch out when Roberts was on 1st? It was obvious he was going.
