You are correct. They have bought more championships than all other teams in all other sports combined. The Yankees are killing the sport. You have a 15 million dollar player not even on the roster. The Yankees total payroll is more than the bottom few teams combined.

The other teams are not cheap, they just don't have the big market the Yankee$ do.

Don't blame the Yankees for playing in such a big market.

Just because you spend money it doesn't mean you win championships. I think the Red Sox can tell you how that works.

I disagree when you say the Yankee's are killing the sport. The ratings of the Sox/Yanks games are good and MLB in general is doing pretty good.

The Yankees not only pay out millions in revunue sharing but other teams love to host them because they draw big crowds. The Yanks play the villian role to perfection. Trust me MLB is better off with the dynasty Yanks than the Yanks of the 80's.

Asian flow, please don't make any predictions. Seriously, just wait until the result is recorded and it's a official. Especially with Seahawks games.

Not really. Baseball popularity was at an all-time high through most of the 80's. The strike of '94 killed that momentum. But people are starting to shy away from baseball even in markets that have winning teams. Oakland being a prime example. The new stadiums have helped numbers a bit, but even in some of those places attendance is down.

The NFL has the hardest and most structured cap system in professional sports and it's by far the most popular and marketable professional sport out there. There's a reason Nascar has passed baseball in popularity. People outside of the biggest of markets are sick of the inequity of the sport.

Now it's not all the Yankees fault, the other owners and the players union are just as much to blame. But if you think the Yankees spending more than the next 3 teams combined is not hurting the sport you are kidding yourself.

I'm not sure you can say people have shyed away in Oakland. They've been averaging 26,000-27,500 the past 4 years. That's a decent sized crowd. One factor to remember in Baseball as well as other sports is that ticket prices have gone up a lot the past decade.

The NFL is the most marketable because they only play once a week, most games are on the weekends where it can draw more fans and tv viewers, and because of gambling.

I find it hard to believe Nascar is more popular than Baseball in the US. How so?

Considering my fav. team is the Blue Jays I'm in a position where I know to make the playoffs they will have to have a better record than either the Yanks or the Red Sox to get the wildcard. (I'm a way bigger Jays fan than Yankee fan) Sure sometimes it can suck because the payrolls of those 2 teams is so much bigger but I realize it won't change anytime soon. I've learned to accept it. I still believe with a few breaks here and there along with smart GM moves you still have a shot. Heck the Marlins knocked off the Yankees last season.

People love to blame the Yanks for what's wrong with baseball but they always fail to mention the revunue they give out to the other clubs and how there road attendance is 41,000 a game. Trust me baseball is better off with the Yankees the way they are.

                            1. If you noticed, the Yankees haven't won the World Series since they started signing guys like Giambi and Matsui, so they didn't really buy anything.

                            2. The owner of the Royals owns K-Mart. The Royals had a payroll of less than $48 million. The owner of the Twins is worth more than $2 billion, yet they only had a payroll of $53 million. Granted, KC and Minnesota aren't big markets, but if they really cared about winning, they'd shell out more money to improve their teams.

Yes Nascar may get the higher rating but that is because it is not readily available to the public, once a week is all you get where as baseball is a nightly thing with less interest on every game. As for ratings this years Fox Baseball game of the week is averaged a 2.6 for the year. Last year they averaged a 2.7. While the numbers may look down, you must take in effect that the last two games had not been added in for the final ratings and with the Cubs vs. Mets pulling a 2.9 and the Braves vs. Cubs with no statistical data open to the public( but ratings expected to be high due to teams involved and at the time both were still in playoff chases I believe) it is pretty obvious that this year the ratings will be higher than those of last year showing a rise in the popularity of the sport. The strike hurt but every year that passes without another strike happening means another year that the popularity is restored and Baseball continues to rise back up from the ashes.
