cheap owners..ok ..i mean the yankees do have the highest payroll in baseball...i mean no one is even close...the yankees pride themselves on that, i mean if it wasnt for the yankees i am sure baseball would have a salary cap but they dont because of the 'pride of the yanks' give me a break...the teams a joke, the team changes every year like the seasons, all they do is buy the all star free agents and try so hard to win a championchip..where is the team chemistry? where is the unity? it doesnt exist lol....BOsox will win game 7 the yanks are shell shocked..they suck..

Yanks buy all star free agents?

How did the Yanks get Williams, A-Rod, Rivera, Jeter, and Posada?

Actually considering the Yanks are only one team if the rest of the owners wanted a salary cap then they would have fought harder for one. I find it hard to believe one team brought the whole idea down.

It's not the owners, it the players. The players union would never go for a hard cap, or something like that. If the players union somehow approved a cap George Steinbrenner couldn't stop it because all the other teams would pass it.

whatever! - i just laugh at all the cocky yanks fans trying to act like they have the best team lol......they dont. there is no chemistry or unity ...its not a team its squad that was formed because the owner was dangling big money infront of their faces...joke...i laugh as do many others.

You're right about the Yankees having the highest payroll in baseball (whereas the Red Sox have 2nd highest, but everyone forgets that) but they're decision is equal to the decisions of the rest of the teams'. If the majority of the owners vote for a salary cap, it will go in effect.

If George Steinbrenner wants to use his money to get the best players available, nothing is stopping him. He's doing what all owners should be doing, getting an advantage for his team. If he wants to change the team every season, so be it. They have 5 players (who were all starters last year and this year, with the exception of Giambi) so saying that they change their whole team is funny.

Funny how they buy All-Star free agents yet some important players came up from the farm system (Posada?, Jeter, Mussina) and some came from trades where they sent away good talent (Soriano) so don't say all they do is buy Free Agents because that's plain ignorant.

The owners have no right to complain about salaries. They could have at least lowered the luxury tax threshold and put their foot down with the Players Union but they never did it.

I hate it when people complain that the Yanks buy their titles.

Mu$$ina was an Oriole for 10 years, he didn't come from the Yankees farm system.

well to state I'm a Mets fan.. but for anyone to critize the Yanks, as much as they may hate them, are wrong.. first of all, Steinbrenner is one of the few owners who actually puts money back into his team.. there are other owners that have more momey than he, but just line their pockets instead of trying to improve their team for a title shot (or some have no clue how to run a team-*cough* Mets front office *cough*). Secondly, the Sox had the first shot at A-Rod, but could not pull the trigger & in the process upset a player so much that he had to be traded.. & speaking of all the FA's the Yanks get, see how well Giambi is doing?? he's glued to the bench for the past two rounds.. but for all of that, you do also have to give credit to the sox.. 1) they put a major player on waivers this past season that NO ONE claimed, 2) picked up a DH/1B essentially off the scrap heap & now see how well he's done & 3) actually improved a team by ridding themselves of Garciapara.. ( and ps, there's currently only 5 "home grown" players on the Yanks -Jeter, Rivera, Posada, Bubba Crosby, & Williams...
