Pedro's stories about Ortiz and Grady Little are fascinating.

Him and Amsinger on MLBN...such good tv.

I mean, it's pretty obvious he didn't know Parra was there and was trying to make the catch. Y'all are acting like he did that on purpose.

Jose Reyes DFA'd by the Rockies.

Where is his new home, or does he have one?

                    This is an incorrect take.

It was a dumb play. Not his ball and that last little lunge was totally ridiculous.

It's only "not his ball" if he knows that the left fielder is there, which he obviously didn't. Call it a mistake for not knowing where a teammate is, but calling him an idiot or saying he didn't need to dive is incorrect. We know that he didn't need to dive because we're watching on TV. He was looking up at the ball and didn't hear Parra (assuming that he was calling for it), so he thought no one was going to make the catch.

Then add the 'didn't see the left fielder' to the rest of Story's mistakes on that play. When venturing into routine territory for another position, you may want to take note of where that fielder is at even if it means taking your eye off the ball for a split second (Note how Nolan Arenado went about it). I mean Parra was there to make the play with a second or two to spare. Why Story thought he was the only one with a play on it that would warrant some circus dive is bad and dumb.

Aside from this, I've seen quite a few near misses and collisions lately. I wonder if outfielders are getting lazy calling for the baseball.

Coors has the largest OF area in baseball. I'm sure the infielders are taught to go after it until you're called off. Arenado had a very different angle to the ball which likely made it easier for him to check for Parra and pick the ball back up. Watching the video, I can't see Parra's mouth moving like he's calling for it, so it's hard for me to fault Story for his effort.

I'm not saying it was a great play by Story. I can just relate to how difficult that play is and it's not as easy as "He should've known Parra was there" in my mind having had to make those kinds of plays.

Certainly some gray area, especially so if Parra was silent. At the same time, Story's reaction speaks volumes. That's not just a 'we were both just hustling and I hope my teammate is alright' posture; that's a 'holy **** is this embarrassing, what am I even doing' posture. His "guilt" is written all over him and how he reacted to the play.

Rizzo gives the Cubs the lead in the 9th. 3-2

Wow. Cubs turn this game on its head after going down 1 in the 8th. Bryant leadoff double and Rizzo homer off of Oliver Perez gives the Cubs a good shot to take 2 of 3 in Washington.

Love sticking it to Uncle Dusty.
