I agree, if they get Beltran their payroll will probably break $200 million. At some point they need to put a stop to Steinbrenners spending.

Re: Is Beltran better than Vlad?

Although Beltran has been playing out of his mind this season and into the postseason, i think he needs to do it a few more years before he can be considered "better' than Guerrero. One thing is for sure though for Beltran....CHA CHING CHA CHING!

Although this is Beltran's breakout year, he's still a bit behind Guerrero in my opinion. They've both been in the league about the same time. Beltran has been in the league 6 years, and Guerrero 8 years (i'm not counting their first years where they only played 14 and 9 games respectively). Beltran's a career .284 hitter compared to Guerrero's .325. This is the only season that Beltran has hit more than 30 homeruns. Guerrero has done it 6 times, including hitting 40 twice during those 6 times. I think Beltran has a little better range in the outfield than Guerrero but Guerrero's throwing arm is one of the tops in the league that few can rival. So while i'm not arguing that Beltran is very talented, i think those numbers speak for themselves.

I would love to have either on my team, but i don't quite think Beltran is there YET. If he has another year like he did this year, i'll be changing my tune a bit, but for now I'd still give the nod to Vlad.

Yeah right. See if you can force the the Brewers to spend $50 million a year on players. You need a cap and floor if any kind of sallary sructure is to work in MLB.

Either way something needs to be done. The current system isn't working in terms of competetive balance.

Everyone keeps emphasizing arm but Beltran is superior in foot speed. I think I would honestly rather have Beltran.

No offense to Vlad, but I would rather have Beltran. Not just because I'm an Astros fan either. I like the fact that Carlos is a switch hitter, a base stealer, and a better defender in a more crucial spot, center field. In reality though, this is like saying would you rather have Willie Mays or Roberto Clemente on your team.

It depends on what you want really.

With Vlad: You are going to get 40 HRs, 100+ Runs, 120-130 RBI, .330 AVG, .400 OBP, .600 SLG, and anywhere from 20-30 SBs. Plus that cannon arm in RF.

With Beltran: You are getting 30 HRs, 100+ Runs, 100 RBIs, .280 AVG, .380 OBP, .550 SLG, and about 40 SBs. Plus the superior defense in CF.

You make the call. I think Vlad is more feared of a hitter, and you have to wonder if Beltran is playing so good because of a contract year. Both are great, great players.
