They were owned by CBS from '64-'73 surely a national media entity like that had the money. The problem was from everything i've read was that CBS was penny wise and pound foolish. They treated the Yankees as just another asset and when they weren't getting the return on investment they wanted they sold the Yanks to Steinbrenner for a pittance.

So it wasn't a question of money but rather the will to spend it.

Free agency didn't even exist at that time.

A team being bad for 10 years in this day and age is inexcusable IMO. There's no reason for it. Just bad ownership.

Oh I know, I'm just saying the game is very different now. Some fan bases really will have to wait 10+ years or already have, won't be us though.

IMO, the Yankees haven't been "good" for 4 years (2012 with their ALCS appearance). When I say good, I mean I look at a team and see a legit contender for the World Series...I haven't felt that way about the team since 2009-2011 time frame.

Yes I know about Free Agency not being around then besides my original comment was mainly a joke.

BTW the Astros were legitimately bad for 6 years...That's pretty close.

The Royals and Pirates were legit bad for 20+ years (outside of KC's surprise 2003 and the Pirates of 1997). It happens...

Pulling a Machado, had two homeruns in 2 innings.

Matz has a no hitter going, so glad I picked him on DraftKings.

Mookie is the first Red Sox player to have two 3 HR games in a season since Ted Williams in 1957.

Pretty impressive feat there. I legitimately like Mookie Betts (wish he was on my team) so it's nice to see him perform well.
