Didn't think he made an appearance last night?

I was tired last night and fell asleep when it was 6-0. Figured the game was over. Didn't expect to wake up to see a 12-6 win this morning with Russell Martin having a 'Sanchise' performance of his own.

You may want to put Ben first as he had more overall knockouts as a bare knuckles fighter in his youth.

The write up on the NBC sports page when Utley talks about his influential play style that stood out to me was this:

"There are so many times I'd meet a father with his son, or even a mother, who would praise the way I played and would tell me they want their son to play that way," Utley said. "To me, that's a true compliment."

When my son hit his first HR in high school and I asked him what he was thinking as he rounded the bases, I remember him telling me that he just wanted to do it like Chase Utley. That guy doesn't know how many people he's influenced.

He had mentioned that his own father told him that he didn't need to brag or talk about how good he is. He told him if you're good enough, people will tell you.

See, I think this is how you do it. This is why I talk about disliking the grandstanding, styling and showboating when I mention it in other threads. This is how it's done.

      You reading this, Bryce?

I mean, I'd rather a guy flip his bat to Mars than do a dirty slide into second base and break the shortstop's leg, but that's just me.

Not the first time he's done something like this, either.

Well Gary continues to smash the ball, too bad the Yankees pitching sucks.

Donaldson and Gibbons getting into it a bit, that was on Donaldson, can't shatter your bat in the dugout.

Not sure why you seem so panicked.
One bad pitch by Wood. And Chapman, who already threw in the first game, isn't one with the best control to begin with. They gave up one run in two games against a bad team. Seems like a good day from my point of view.

Sportsnet here in Canada tried to make a big deal out of it LOL! That was indeed on Donaldson but they made it seem like it was some big ol' argument. It's a long season, tempers flare up i'm sure they'll be BBFs again after the game.

Nice to see the offense continue to perform well after last night.

Sorry for the double post but MLB-N is doing a Sabrmetric broadcast of the Pirates/Giants game in a half hour (3:30 EST)

The Yankees could have really come out of the series on top, but stupid mistakes, cost them.

Crazy fact. Jays are first road team in 50 years to win 5 consecutive series at Yankee Stadium.

And Toronto was one big hit away in the 9th the other night from making it a sweep. You win some, you lose some. But never in my time following Toronto have I seen them perform this well against a division rival for this long. Going back to the 2nd half of 2014, they are 26-14 against NY. But of course, they still can't manage a winning record against Tampa.

Yep, Yankees are pretty damn mediocre, but at least they have a few guys up now, to make things more entertaining for me to watch.

                              Assume you're talking to me???

First of all, as a Cubs fan I reserve the right to panic over anything, large or small, in big games or in meaningless games.

Second, I'm fed up with the bullpen blowing winnable games. This has been a problem all year. Chapman shouldn't have even been needed in the nightcap. I know, cry me a river at 32 over .500, but I want to put this division on ice ASAP. The Brewers getting cheap homers, bloop hits, swinging bunts, and loading the bases in the 9th against the pen after doing absolutely nothing all day is unnecessary--our pythagorean W/L is actually 80-38 (5 games better than reality) if you can believe that--and Travis Wood has been bad this year like a lot of flameouts that we depended on in the bullpen (Grimm, Richard, Cahill, Warren and most of our new guys with Smith now on the DL). Wood's problem, imo, is that he's throwing his fastball way too much at the expense of his cutter/sinker. It's usage is up almost 20% from last season which means that 2 out of 3 pitches are going to be a straight fastball somewhere in the zone. Gee, I wonder what pitch I'm sitting on said Hernan Perez to himself last night.

A third point is that we've been pretty miserable lately with loading the bases and such and letting the other team wriggle out of it. So, yes, while sweeping a double header against a bad team is great on the surface, the team isn't really playing at a level that will win them many playoff games against quality teams.

Hitting more effectively w/RISP and getting decent innings from the non-Chapman bullpen are 2 big areas the Cubs will need to improve on to avoid a replay of the 2008 playoffs.

They don't call it AL Beast for nothing. Sucked all those years being stuck in division with 2 of top teams in entire mlb. Had they not had to play Sox/Yankees as much as they did in those years, they'd likely have been playoff team multiple times in early 00s.

Steroid era hurt it too. Going up against so many (alleged) steroid players who resided in the east.

Jays in general haven't been bad against rest of league over past 15+ years, the division games are what kill them though. No surprise that they're doing so well now at a time they're winning division games.
