    Is Barry Bonds reputation tarnished?

I think so. He's got nowhere to hide now that his trainer has ratted him out. I think the home run record should be taken away from him if they truly prove it. Can't wait for Canseco's book to come out and see the massive list of players he will name that have used steroids.

I don't know that it's going to be tarnished. I think people already had their opinions about him, whether it is proven or not. It wasn't illegal at that time, so people are going to say it's not a big issue. I just look at how small he was early in his career, and the fact that he only passed 40 homeruns three times before his "awakening." Now, he's just this monster. It really makes you wonder.

Also, the rest of the league doesn't do itself any favors by the way they pitch to him (or don't pitch to him actually). This whole "Barry is in another universe" belief is there in part because nobody has the guts to pitch to him. They only feed the problem. I think if people would just go after him, he's going to get his homers, but he obviously wouldn't have this outrageous amount of walks and OPS. Whether he breaks Aaron's record or not, in my opinion, he's never going to be as good as Ruth. Maybe if he can go out there and win 20 games as a pitcher....

For what he did for the Giants franchise, heck no. Even when Caminiti came clean with his steroids, Padres fans still recognize what he had done for the franchise. I'm not holding any steroids (if true) issue against him.

True, but how many HR's does caminiti have compared to bonds? Next year he has a big shot at breaking the home run record and I'd hate it if he wins it with steriods where as Hank Aaron did it on pure skills.

Say what you want about 'roids, and I don't believe this is true, not until I see proof of it. BUT you have to have skill to hit homeruns. You can put all the body builders you want on the field, and most of them wont be able to hit a HR. It's mainly about how fast your reaction time is, and knowing when and where to swing the bat.

Your right. Barry Bonds has always had the skill and this (assuming he did take them) just made him better. But without them (again, assuming he did take them) he would of needed twice longer to break Aaron's record and I highly doubt he would of gotten the 70 HR's.

I really wish I could believe that he didn't take them, but he is just so much bigger than before that it makes it hard on which side to take.

Re: Is Barry Bonds reputation tarnished?

Barry Bonds has had a somewhat bad reputation even before this whole steroids thing came up. He was very bad with the media in Pittsburgh and he carried that through his early years in San Fran. He's had to mellow out a bit since he's become such a spectacle with his HRs but things could get hairy with all this steroid stuff. If Canseco names Bonds as one of the many players that took Roids then it's going to be very hard for Bonds to be liked by the fans. He's already lost the confidence of most of the press and is disliked by them. The steroids will just make him an even more hated personality in baseball and the face of modern "juiced up" sports.

He probably won't even be a first ballot HOFer because of his reputation (if you take the steroids stuff out of the equation I believe the same would still hold true) Bonds really has no one to blame but himself. If he had been more gracious in his younger days perhaps he'd have some big name journalists defending him.

A TAPED CONFESSION OF HIS TRAINER SAYING HE TOOK STEROIDS....I'm thinking even if he were to hold a press conference and Look right at the camera and state he took steroids and listed the years and what he took. People would still not believe he took them....
