Every owner can afford that, it's just most choose not to.

I'm hoping he stays with the Astros - just so he doesn't go to the Yankees.

I just dont see Beltran as a New York player. He reminds me of Vazquez in that respect. Unless the yankees offer him an ungodly ammount of money and his agent talks him into it, I see him signing with a team like Houston or Seattle.

The guys who thrive in NY are the prima-donna's like Reggie Jackson and the gutty, save your best for when it counts players like Jeter or a Thurman Munson. Its tough to begin your career in a small market, basically become fully formed as a player under those circumstances then get transplanted to the Bronx... I mean, was it me, or did Vazquez look terrified. From what I've seen of Beltran he's a pretty reserved guy, almost awkward. I don't think it's a good fit for him.

IMO, the yankees should be looking for tough fibered role players like David Wells and Miguel Cairo... guys who will compliment and not be relied on to take center stage. And most importantly they should put some cash towards player development and stop leeching off the rest of baseball for their players.

                          I dunno if it's a lock that he'll be a yankee.

I think they're gonna make a run for beltran and try to trade for randy johnson, but i think they'll be forced to choose one or the other, and it'll be johnson that they'll ultimately get.

adding beltran will do nothing for them if the pitching doesn't improve, as this year's ALCS made all too painfully clear.
