Cubs will not pick up option on Alou!?

What the heck is that!? Sosa staying, Alou is not. It's looking worse by the day for the 2005 Chicago Cubs. I guess the only Cubs going to the postseason next year are the ones on my XBOX.

    BAH!!!

well alou is 39, and they can use that 10 million towards beltran or ramirez, but they need to do anything possible to get rid of sammy.
Just wait till Arsenal moves into Emirates Stadium.

How much was the option for? It's possible that the Cubs plan to bring him back, just for less money than the option was worth. Or maybe they're clearing salary to try and re-sign Nomar, or perhaps make a run at Beltran...

Well, Alou led the team in RBI's if I'm not mistaken. And he was, in my opinion the most valuable player aside from maybe Aramis Ramirez. And as for re-signings, if the Cubs got Beltran (which I'd SERIOUSLY doubt) I'd probably have a heart attack. I'd bet anything he's in Yankee pinstripes next year. Nomar probably won't resign because he's going to want some outrageous sum of money and to be honest I'm kind of weary about Nomar because of his lack of durability. The Red Sox traded him because of it and he suffered an injury or two in his short stent with the Cubs. I've never doubted his ability or his heart, but he is a bit injury prone.

I'm very glad that Alou and his umpire conspiracy is outta here. ARe you sure Sammy is staying? I still think he will be moving on IF they can find a deal.

Too early to worry about next year til you see who they get. This move will free up money to spend on other players.

While Alou produced he turned into a real tool this year, maybe it was the Bartman incident but he wasnt like this last year. This is a step in the right direction. They need speed in this lineup. Now if they can get rid of cork... They are going to make a run at Beltran. They better not be cheap about it. 5 years 100 mil sounds like a starting point. They have the money. Then they need to focus on fast contact hitters who dont k and there team will be tons better.

Sammy is "stayng" untill someone makes the Cubs a good enough offer for him. I expect Nomar to be headed for Southern California next year (Angels). The Cubs will not make a serious run at Beltran because they are not going to offer him the $90 mil. he is rumored to be looking for. The Cubs say they hope to re-sign Alou at much lower salary then they would have paid if they picked up his option. And all the while they have been saying they want add speed to their Outfield, keeping Sammy and bringing back Alou doesn't exactly do that.
