Originally posted by camulosFirst of all, you're not a Red Sox fan so stop trying to act like one. Second, Bill Buckner has no demons. There is nothing for true Red Sox fans to forgive him for. We did not lose the 1986 world series because of Bill Buckner. Just like we didn't lose last years ALCS because of Wakefield. By the time Buckner's play came around they had already blown a save twice, including a wild pitch that allowed the tying run to score in the bottom of the 10th after the Sox had taken a 5-3 lead.
The man has been hounded by the media since then and made the scapegoat for the fictional curse that everyone loved to talk about. True Red Sox fans never blamed him for the loss to begin with. It was just a convenient image for the media to use to symbolize the Red Sox woes.
EDIT - The Sox also left 14 men on base in this game.Comment

Yeah, ask any Red Sox fan. Bob Stanley was the LaTroy Hawkins of his time.Comment

You like one team and you like the other. Not that difficult."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Some people who view the rivalry from afar are not really ensared by the entrenched mentality which exists between those in the same geographic proximity. For example, initially being a CUbs fan through watching WGN in, say, New Mexico, means that the Cubs-Cards rivalry is imperceptible to them. Its a little different in this case as the Yankees represent more things which people perceive as negative than is the case with the Cardinals but still...Comment
