Re: Nomar is getting a ring...Agree/Disagree

He did not play in the months of April, May, August, September and October. The Sox went 56-46 with him on the roster (19-19 with him in the lineup) and went 42-18 after the trade without him. He did not help this team win the World Series so why should he get a ring for WINNING THE WORLD SERIES. If you want to reward him for being a important part of the franchise, go ahead, give him something else besides a ring he didn't earn.

I'll ask you this. If you were on the Red Sox, would you stand up in the middle of the clubhouse and give this same speach? I really doubt it. They feel he had something to do with this, and that's what counts. This is not a selfish group of guys, which I thought was pretty evident over the past few weeks. Maybe you saw a different Red Sox team than the rest of us did.

played 9 seasons for the sox, face of the franchise...got traded the year they won a ring...tried to trade for the best player in the game...you HAVE TO give him his ring

          2004 red sox..38 games...321 avg...5 hrs...21 rbis...50 hits...7 doubles...24 runs

its not like he was flat on his face when he left, and he was injured

.....and without trading him they wouldn't have won it. Let's not forget that they got Cabrera and Mientkiewicz in return.

This happens every year. It's not like the Red Sox are breaking new ground or setting a new precedent by doing this. Teams vote on what playoff share (if any) a player who contribited to the team during that season deserves.

The Red Sox as a team obviously know more about the situation than we do. It was up to them and they voted in favor of Nomar (and from the reports I heard it was pretty much a unanimous decision).

Who are we to question what his former teammates decided as a team?

I think there is a difference between what he "should" get and what they decided to give him out of class. I can't see any of those guys saying no to Nomar getting it just because it would look bad. They are probably just trying to be the better man and avoid looking like jerks. Remember Nomar pouting in the dugout in that extra innings Yankees game. Regardless of what the front office was doing to him he still should have supported his teamates, just like they are basically supporting him now.

                      Honestly, this is really dumb.

Shouldn't Babe Ruth's relatives get rings then, too? 'Cause I mean, without him, this wouldn't be that big of a deal.

Nomar did not play a single game in the postseason for the Red Sox, and they won IN THE POSTSEASON, with him long gone. No, he doesn't deserve one. Sure, he's a great player.. for ANOTHER TEAM!

I don't care if he WAS the face of the franchise.. that's like saying, if the Rangers won a World Series, that A-Rod should get a ring for being their best player years ago..

No, don't give Nomar a ring.

i agree this was a postseason championship not a reg season championship and he didnt contribute during the postseason cuz he was in chicago sitting at home. i agree with giving him money from the playoff run cuz he had a share or whatever but he did nothing for the Sox in Oct period.

Nomar should just make it known, "No, thanks, guys" when it comes to the ring. Why would he even want it? Is it to be reminded for the rest of his life that his only contribution to winning it was by leaving town 3+ months earlier as trade bait? If I wasn't part of the organization when the World Series was earned, I would take it as a condescending insult.

As for the monetary share, though, if the Red Sox players want to give it to him, that's a different story. Rewarding anybody, and everybody, who contributed during the six month journey to the playoffs is a legitimate decision, so if I were Nomar, I'd take it and run to the bank.
