And then you give a 4 year deal for over 4 mil a season for Guzman (no power, doesn't draw walks, wiffs way too much = poor player).....

Besides the money they gave up 2 draft picks. They could have waited until Dec to sign these players without giving up any picks.

    Their GM is a moron.
    Perfect Call. Terrible Signings.

I think the reason they signed now is so they can try to gain more publicity thus getting higher revenue.

Well, Castilla batted .277 for the Braves before last season, but his away from Coors numbers were quite bad.

As for Guzman, my problem with him is that he always finds a way to miss about 20 games a season. Plus the poor OBP doesn't help either.

        Not very great moves.

Great, their first year in existence and they're already throwing in more money than what John Moores would be willing to spend for the Padres.

I have a hard time picturing any Washington baseball fan getting excitied over the additions of Vinny and Guzman. I know I wouldn't rush out to buy tickets to see these two guys play.

Both signings boggle my mind, but more so for Guzman. His OPS was near the bottom last season for starting players and his career OPS is only .685
I understand SS isn't a premium position for offensive production but his numbers scream out backup and not a 4 mil+ a year player. If he was so good there's no way a smart club like the Twins would let him go.

It's obvious their GM is a moron so I'm hoping somehow the Jays can trade for Nick Johnson.

                        Re: Guzman Signs!

Keep in mind that the Expos were not going to sign Nomar Garciaparra and Adrian Beltre. Did they over pay for Guzman?...yes, but you can thank the Giants for that one, giving Omar Vizquel, a 37 year old SS $4.mil per season could not have helped this signing at all. and Castilla, well...what can i say.
as for getting Nick Johnson, Johnson will be traded but only so they can move Brad Wilkerson to 1B, so a trade with Toronto is possible, but then, a trade with any team is possible.

I would rather see Brendan Harris at third for the Washingtonians. Have to agree with the majority here that these weren't the best moves.

Well, they have pretty good 7th and 8th type of hitters now.
