And the youth called up yesterday gets the winning hit today. If only the A's could just play at home all year. 20-13 at home vs 9 - 25 on the road.

Meh, The Freeze lost, no point in watching baseball anymore.

Regarding the Pineda trade: Pineda: 10.0 fWAR vs. Montero: -1.4 fWAR for the Mariners.

I will go out on a limb and declare that the Yankees won that trade.

                  No HR= no offense.

This Jays team is far too dependent on the long ball and can't hit with RISP to save their lives. I'm actually hoping Shapiro and Atkins become sellers because the dynamic of this franchise has to change. I'll take a season or two of losing if it means having an adequate offense that doesn't rely on the long ball all the time.

I don't understand Atlanta's struggles at home. 9-27 at home and trailing 7-4 today.

Since that 21-9 start they are only 17-18...like I said, there's a long way to go.

Arrieta busting out the lumber...what a shot to tie the game.

It is baffling what is going on with Arrieta...they were talking about all the innings he's thrown being an issue, but I just think his mechanics have too many moving parts. Second straight start he can't get through 5...

I can't believe how this Cubs team has played this year...all around, they have underperformed.

ESPN had an article today that said he's got some kind of thumb injury that is affecting his grip. Don't know about that, but he's certainly missing something.

I don't agree with the moving parts comment about his mechanics, I think he's just landing way too far toward 3rd base.

I agree that the team as a whole has underperformed--there's no debate there. There isn't one area of the team that's responsible either, which has to be frustrating for Epstein as he plots and schemes. I was trying to pin it mostly on the bullpen a month or so ago, but it's become clear that's not accurate. Young guys aren't hitting and starters not named Lester have been bad relative to what was expected of them. It's hard to fathom that Kyle Hendricks was the NL ERA leader last season, which goes to show 2 things...Kershaw didn't pitch enough healthy innings to qualify and ERA is not a great stat.

As for Arrieta, it's becoming clearer and clearer that his Cy Young season was an extreme outlier. He's not as bad as he was in Baltimore, but he's not the no-hitter-on-any-given-night player he was in 2015 either. Basically, he's a decent SP #3 option for most teams and for the Cubs' starting pitching to be really potent, he needs to be as good or better than Lester. Arrieta's velocity and movement have dipped substantially if you compare his PITCHf/x this year to 2015/2016. He's not nasty enough right now to overcome spotty command.
