What? Does that even make sense for Texas? Why would you get rid of Darvish if you're Texas?

Sounds like Houston has cooled off on their Sonny Gray interest, but there's a lot of smoke around the A's/Yankees negotiations. I'd bet on him going to NY. They have a need and I read an article today where it said the Yankees' surplus on the farm will need to be addressed re: Rule V draft because they won't have enough room on their 40-man to keep all of them, so they might have to deal them for MLB talent to get something out of them. That's why I think they get Gray. They can offer more than just about anyone.
I don't see that happening though unless the Yankees part ways with Torres or Frazier. I doubt Oakland would part with Gray for say.... Mateo, Fowler, Sheffield. Or something along those lines.

Darvish is in the last year of his contract and the Rangers are not catching the Astros. If Texas isn't planning to pony up $150-200MM to re-sign him, I think it does make sense. The Rangers are currently 4th in their own division, so they are probably not seriously contemplating a wild card run.

Mariners trade Tyler O'Neil for Marco Gonzales.
There's the overpay of 2017 trade deadline. Drew Pomeranz-esque trade for the Mariners.

I didn't realize he was in the last year of his contract...for some reason I thought he had just re-signed after 2015. My bad...that makes sense to me now.

Not really comparable even at that. This trade is just out there, and not a good look.

The number 29 prospect just went for Marco Gonzales.

I don't know...this trade doesn't look as crazy to me as you'd think. O'Neil isn't tearing it up in the PCL, so I don't know that he's that great of a prospect to be honest. Gonzalez was a decent prospect before his injury and has done well at AAA this year. It might look bad on paper now, but I could see it working out for both teams.

Seriously what the hell is JD thinking?. Who the hell is Marco Gonzales and why the hell is Dipoto making a Zdurencic esque trade? Hey, we have no damn farm anyway, so lets just give away 2 of the better prospects we DO have for mediocre pitchers. Whats next Kyle Lewis for Matt Harvey? Lmao hilarious.

Gonzalez was a top 50 prospect before his surgery...he may turn into nothing, but he was a good pitching prospect who has done really well this year coming back from TJS in 2015. The PCL is a big time offensive league, so for O'Neil to only be doing what he's doing in that league is a red flag, IMO.

He has a .779 slugging percentage in his last 24 games. That seems other worldly to me. Maybe he had a slow start to the year.

Edit: He also has 19 home runs and 21 doubles, a .479 slg for the season. Those numbers seem pretty good to me.

Tonight is going to be huge for Marco Estrada. If the Royals are still interested in him then here's hoping he can have a pretty good start.

In other Jays deadline news, apparently some teams have sent "feelers" out for Bautista. I can't imagine any kind of decent return for him but it's interesting that there is some interest.
