Re: 2017 MLB Trade Deadline Thread

And as I've said before. The Mariners need to start a full on rebuild before it's too late. Our farm is bare bones and the core of our team is just getting older. Hell I would have gladly traded Paxton for what the Cubs gave for Quintana. But Dipoto foolishly thinks this team as currently constructed has a chance.

I'll take the large sample of the last couple years than a couple of months. over the 3 past calendar years He's been the 7th best pitcher in baseball over some pretty interesting names. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.asp...lter=&players=

WAR isn't the end all but it tells a picture. I'm not saying he's an ACE but I think he's a really good 2 or a worst one of the best 3s and his contract is so darn good.

and over the last 7 starts he has 2.70 ERA and 10.13 K/9 which indicates he could be figuring stuff out and he's going to the NL.

The Mariners have been hurt by injuries and inconsistency from the pitching staff (and to a lesser extent, the offense too). Dipoto did a damn fine job getting a starting 25 man roster but injuries to almost our entire rotation and key players at one point has hurt us greatly over the first 90 games

Sheesh, the Dodgers aren't fooling around. According to Jon Heyman they're interested in acquiring Zach Britton to create the greatest 8th/9th inning tandem in history besides Britton they've also got their eye on a couple other lefties in Brad Hand, Sean Doolittle, and Justin Wilson.

Not to mention that no successful front office in baseball uses ERA as a serious measure of talent or as a predictor of things to come. It's still a fun pitching triple crown stat and will never go away, but there are maybe a dozen better stats to look at before ERA.

Also, wouldn't trading for a pitcher with a 4.6 ERA who normally has an ERA a shade over 3 be buying low??

Right, but his point is they paid a high price for a mediocre pitcher therefore buying high. He should have been able to be bought for a bucket of balls like Felix Hernandez could be with his 4.44 era.

The Padres wanted Alex Verdugo for Brad Hand.

All this Felix shade is making me seriously sad hope he can bounce back

I know this. But they're still the same ole Mariners. We are as healthy as we have been all season but can't stay consistent. Dipoto has done a fine job, but he needs to consider adding to the prospect cupboard. All we really have down there is Lewis and O'Neill and to a lesser extent Vieirra.

Cardinals are in the market for a middle of the order bat. But they are trying to find one that is controllable, not just a rental.

Their prime target appears to be Josh Donaldson.

I doubt they would give up Urias for Britton?

Wouldn't mind trading Kyle Seager. He is having an off year by his standards. But he can get hot and finish with a .270ish avg. Also has a gold glove caliber glove at 3B. And he has been very consistent. Shoe in for .260-.280, 25 HR, 80+ RBI every season. All though he will need to get hot to reach those numbers this year, he did have 30 HR and 99 RBI last season. Also his contract is pretty fair for his production and he is signed through 2020 I believe. I don't know what the Cards would be willing to offer in the way of prospects though. However, I doubt the Mariners would even entertain trading him at this point, due to what DiPoto has said pertaining to trying to go for it, and dealing him would be like waiving the white flag. The off-season is a different story though.

No matter how good a reliever is, I would be against trading top level prospects for one, unless someone is expendable or blocked. Urias has ace potential and if they did that, it could be one of those instances where they look back 5 years down the road and say "The **** were we thinking?"

According to what Moz said recently I don't know what they are going to do. They are torn between trying to improve roster for playoff hopes and riding out this season and keep their prospects for the future, and even trade our own short term assets (Lance Lynn)

Personally I would prefer keeping our prospects, trade a few short term players, and build for next year.
