Agreed. He's declined pretty badly of late, but to say there isn't a playoff caliber team out there (other than maybe LA) that could at least use him off the bench for the stretch run is questionable.

A trade may be a little difficult to put together due to Bautista's NTC and the fact that Toronto would get a comp pick if they keep him until his contract is up, decline the options, and he signs elsewhere. The return would have to be better than what they could get from a potential compensatory pick. The acquiring team would have to want him enough to make that happen.

Bautista has indeed declined badly but he still has a good eye at the plate that's why despite the horrible batting average he still has a decent OBP. Either way, if he leaves via waivers or next year I'll be sad to see him gone. Bautista was able to have a great career here and there was a love affair between him and the city. Love him or hate him today, the man will be remembered as an All-Time Blue Jay.

Wouldn't they still need to offer a QO this offseason to get a pick?

Looks like Alonso is off to Seattle for Boog Powell. So the A's get a little something back for Yonder anyway.

Their lone all star for one AAAA player. He's still only 24 though so there's something, maybe.

Boog isn't anything special, but it seems like Alonso has cooled off since the break too. So...who knows. I like the idea of it though.

Seems like the Mariners are buying low and hoping Alonso can bounce back. Here's his 2nd half numbers so far:

                            .230/.356/.377 with 2 HR and 6 RBI

His OPS has dropped from a 1st half number of .934 to .733.

                            Not exactly great numbers.

As couldn't get anything better for Alonso before the actual trade deadline?

Given that it seems like basically an unwritten code that teams don't actually make waiver claims after trade deadline(or at very least, they know certain guys would be pulled back so it's completely pointless making claim you know won't happen), is there really a point to a "non-waiver trade deadline"?
