Going strictly off of who is most likely making it, the pitching rotations look like so for a 7 game series: (I'm spitballing here, I don't know how these managers will try to slot their rotations and manage days of rest, home/away, etc.)

    Game 1: Severino vs. Kluber/Keuchel/Sale

    Game 2: Tanaka vs. Carrasco/McCullers/Price

    Game 3: CC vs. Salazar/Morton/Pomeranz

(Guessing here that NY won't use a young arm like Severino on 3 days' rest)

    Game 4: Montgomery vs. Kluber/Keuchel/Sale

    Game 5: Severino vs. Carrasco/McCullers/Price

    Game 6: Tanaka vs. Salazar/Morton/Pomeranz

    Game 7: CC vs. Kluber/Keuchel/Sale

I'm sure you'll argue it's not hands down but I've boldened the matchups I think are tilted against NY.

Getting a Sonny Gray makes Game 3 a very winnable, maybe even highly favorable option for the Yankees. Then they can hope Montgomery doesn't kill their bullpen and/or that Tanaka and Severino can steal games 5-6. It's the same reason why Houston and LA on the NL side wants Gray. He's outstanding.

Regarding Houston, who you seem to be treating like a bunch of scrubs: the last time they were in the playoffs, they beat NY and took the eventual champs to 5 games in the ALDS with a much lesser roster than they have currently. Fully healthy, they are the clear-cut best team in the AL. That doesn't mean they'd beat the Indians or Red Sox or Yankees, but they should be heavily favored in every playoff series.

There are 3 main points I want taken away from this whole exchange:

    1. Playoff runs aren't guaranteed on an annual basis for the Yankees anymore

    2. Torres isn't untouchably good, or you would have never gotten him for a rental reliever. The Cubs felt they'd be just fine with a middle IF 3-some of Baez/Russell/Ian Happ for their own foreseeable future. So please, don't act like he's some all-time great talent in the minors. You guys are acting like he's 20 year old A-Rod.

    3. All Star caliber pitchers with years of control like Gray aren't available very often and are a lot more valuable than closers like Chapman, who you got Torres for.

    I've said my piece.

You make very valid points, I'm not pooping Hou that's the problem these days with any opinion against anything, they are a really good team but Keachel is a ?, and that was a much different yankee team he beat, as good as they are that's not a dominate staff

Sale is best pitcher in the AL hands down and yet yankees win both games he started against them this year and in playoffs as amped up as the games are his bullpen could very well blow yet another pitching duel for him

I'm not doubting the points you make but saying the Yankees go nowhere with that staff is a stretch imo, when nobody else is hands down better and they have the better bullpen and a really good offense

I do think a WC slot kills the Yankees because then they have worse matchups regardless

    We shall see soon enough

I still don't do that Gray trade though cause he is not hands down in any of those matches either

Of course he is. When we got him last year he was a young player who put up promising numbers at high A ball. Now he dominated the AFL, put up his best minor league numbers at both AA and AAA. He'd be in the majors now if not for a fluke injury. He's obviously upped his value from last year.

Now sources are saying Torres and Frazier are not what's holding the deal up with NY. They are discussing other prospects.

Supposedly talks with the Brewers have stalled because A's are insisting on Brinson.

I'm more interested in Lance Lynn honestly. If he's not too costly. Well aware of his injury history but I think he'd be a good gamble.

Liriano is definitely not long for the Blue Jays rotation. He's had a couple of really nice starts and it looks like he's rounding back into the form he showed all the way back in spring training. I have confidence he'll be dealt to a team looking to bolster its starting rotation or even as a lights out situational guy in the pen.

Lol Gray is not THAT good. He is not a true #1. Whoever trades the farm for him will regret it.

So it looks like Jaime Garcia is on the move for the 2nd time in a week, this time to the Yankees. What makes this ridiculous is that the Twins are getting the Yankees 22nd best prospect...the Braves basically got nobody. Garbage work by the Braves front office.

Well the Twins are getting both Zack Littell and Dietrich Enns for him. Littell is dominating AA and Enns is doing really well at AAA. Good move for the Twinkies, who always need pitching. It does kind of make the Braves look silly in getting a guy struggling in rookie ball for the same guy another team got 2 near-ready MiLB starters for.

One should also mention that the Twins paid some of the cost for Garcia in dollars (Atlanta off the hook), while the Yankees paid the price in prospects (MIN is still on the hook for the money).

I wonder if Atlanta ever tried to deal directly with the Yankees? Maybe NY didn't want to pay Garcia's remaining salary? And so on.

According to Jon Heyman, the Yankees are still trying and there's a really good chance of it happening.

Cubs need a pen arm and perhaps a backup catcher...would like to see them go after a Justin Wilson/Alex Avila package deal. Radio silence so far for the Cubbies.
