Maddux once pitched a complete game against the Cubs...with like 68 pitches.

Good grief, what a horrible performance by the Cubs pen today. Theo will have Britton in a Cubbies uniform in a couple days now IMO. LOL

We've discussed this earlier this year...the biggest difference to me this year with them is they are inconsistent. They put those numbers up with performances like this:

Good, Good, Average, Awful, Good, Good, Good, Awful...

Last year it felt like this:

Good, Good, Meh, Good, Good, Good, Meh...

Another way to summarize that last inning--the Cub bullpen walked 6. Kenley Jansen has walked 2 in 41 innings this season.

That's the deal with the devil you make when having all stuff-over-command guys. Some outings they are unhittable. Some outings they couldn't save a game in A ball.

Statistically speaking, the '16 and '17 Cubs bullpens have performed in a near identical fashion. I mean it's uncanny how similar the numbers are. The feeling you get might be due to the fact that other areas of the club performed so well last season as to minimize bullpen issues, whereas the offense and rotation have not been as dominant in 2017. Mediocrity and bad outings have stood out more on a less successful team, imo.

One of the reasons the Cubs had to ride Chapman so hard down the stretch and into the playoffs is because guys not named Edwards or Montgomery stunk to high heaven late last season. Strop was bad. Rondon was abysmal. Grimm was unusable. Joe Smith was a waste of a trade. etc. The Cubs are going to need another high quality arm to compliment Wade Davis because some of these guys are consistently very inconsistent.

That was one hell of a snowball inning.

DBacks go back to back to back to start the game against Scherzer, score 4 runs total in the 1st.

4 HR total for the DBacks so far

Alex Wood drops a two out popup from Jaime to allow 2 runs to score as it goes to 4-0 Braves in the 4th. I feel like if the pitcher make the error, it should be counted as earned runs.

Good call not trading Jaime today.

Grand Slam Jaime. 9-0 Bravos. Alex Wood is probably getting that first loss of the year. If only this team hadn't sleepwalk through the last series.

Jaime Garcia taking the trade rumors pretty personally?

Pirates continue to play solid ball, leading Colorado 12-5.

Brewers continue to get pounded by the state of Pennsylvania. Dropped their 6th straight game, all coming vs Keystone State clubs.
