Re: Johnson for Vasquez?
I like Vasquez and I don't think NY is a problem. I swear he was hurt in the 2nd half of the season. If you look at his numbers, it could be true. As someone who watched nearly all of his outings, even Jim Kaat (one of the best color men in the business) talked about his arm not getting up which is a sign for shoulder problems.
However, as many stated, Johnson is a now move and George will make a now move. There are plenty of Vasquez type of pitchers out there. It is not like giving up Mariano Rivera or someone like that.
Atl is a good destination for any pitcher. I wish Kevin Brown would go there.Formerly Favre4vrComment

Re: Johnson for Vasquez?
I don't buy into this "NY Pressure". First of all, this pressure the media talks about is overused. Anytime a guy crumbles, it's because of New York. Talk about thinking too highly of the city you live in.
Vasquez had a very impressive first half. Why didn't he crumble under the NY Pressure then? All of a sudden he realized he was pitching in New York and collapsed? Come on, lets be serious. Something was wrong with Vasquez and it could be a tired arm. He pitched a load of innings and when someone drops their arm slot, it's either because of injury (I doubt this one though) or because of a tired arm (seems more likely).
In addition, I still don't see how Vasquez did that bad in the second half. His problem was that he had really bad games, but whenever he pitched well, he pitched really well. Yea, this didn't happen too much in the second half of the season, but he still had the best opp. avg. against, most quality starts, and K's for the Yankee rotation. If he cleans up his walks and two+ run homeruns, Vasquez is a Cy Young candidate."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Johnson for Vasquez?
I don't think Bank One Ballpark is a good place for Vasquez. He has a homerun problem and pitching there won't help but could be offsetted by one less bat in the lineup over in the NL. The armslot raises some concerns and I would think after their manager dibacle the Arizona front office would be a little gunshy. I think the Yankees are going to have to pay a significant portion of Vasquez's contract for this trade to happen.
And as an aside, why do the Yankees sign these players to these backloaded contracts? Vasquez's isn't as bad as Giambi's though, who quite possibly could have the worst contract in baseball.Comment

Man whatever happened to Vazquez, he was a major disappointment for me last season. I think he'd fit well with the D-Backs since they are in rebuilding mode.Comment
