The whole Braves deal makes no sense. If they lose there international signings if they break the rules then almost every team should lose their international signings too because almost every team breaks them. So what's the point trying to make an example of the Braves. I don't understand what the point of this is.

It would not surprise anyone if other teams were cheating. At this point, they have not been caught. It seems clear to me that the MLB thought that the punishment levied on the Red Sox what not enough to deter teams. Therefore, they dropped the hammer on the Braves, with the hope that it would send the hint to other teams to fly straight. I can't say for sure if it will work or not, but clearly the MLB is not messing around with this anymore.
That being said, I miss the old days. Unlimited international spending, infinite draft overslotting, type A and B compensation and more. It made it much easier for a team to reload. I think the MLBPA did themselves a disservice by allowing the owners to put caps on what they can spend on kids under the guise of helping small market teams. It's one thing when the 1st overall pick is making more than 95% of the players in the league like it was in the NFL for awhile, but the MLB was nowhere near that.Comment

Twins have explored trades or Gerrit Cole and Jake Odorizzi.

Re: 2017-2018 MLB Hot Stove Thread
I don't care if other teams broke the rules. The Braves got hit the way they did because ebecause our ******* general manager was so brazen about it, in size and scope too, and rubbed everyone the wrong way with pretty much all his interactions around the league. He pissed a lot of people off. And now the franchise has to pay for trusting him.
I think I read that we can sign them after a certain point next year but they can't get signing bonuses from us. Not that rules seem to matter to anyone in charge in the ****ing organization anyway.Last edited by TheMatrix31; 11-22-2017, 01:55 AM.Comment

If I'm being serious, I'd say that's a strange assumption and just screams of trying to absolve one self by incriminating others. If I'm joking, I'd say it doesn't make any sense: if he had learned anything from his time with the Yankees, it obviously would've been how to keep this **** under wraps and not embarrass your entire organization.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Hardly strange. It isn't any more strange than assuming a large number of players were doing PED's in the 90's-2000's.Comment

Re: 2017-2018 MLB Hot Stove Thread
If a player played in the minor leagues for one team for 3 years, got traded, played in the minors for another team for another 3 years before coming up to the Majors and becoming a star for 5 years, gets popped for steroids, and then the fans wanted to question what he was doing in the minors for the first team? I'd think that an equally strange request. It would look like you just couldn't believe your franchise had done it and he must have learned it from somewhere else.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Now, you think it's strange of me to say, "Wow, is this type of thing going on in New York?" Blakely shows up after nearly 20 years in the Yankees system and decides he wants to break all the rules? If that's what you need to tell yourself, okay...but let's not act like there isn't a credible connection."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. Forget the PED analogies. Gordon Blakely, who directed the Yankees farm systems for nearly 20 years, is brought on board when Coppolella is made the GM after Coppolella worked with him in NY for 5 years. Blakely, less than 3 years later, is then banned from the game for a year for his actions in the international market in Atlanta.

Even if Blakely had been the one suspended for life, it'd make more sense. It'd be just as easy to assume based on what we know that Coppy learned some bull**** in his 10 years with the Braves and then brought Blakely over because he thought he had found a crack in the system. The point is we don't know. What we do know is that according to you the Braves are doing what every other team in the league is doing, and their front office got caught and punished. Makes you wonder what incompetence there is in the Atlanta organization if anything.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it
