The Giants have paid off their AT&T Park debt a long time ago, and have been printing money since 2010. They can afford his contract. That's not the big issue for the Giants though.

The last thing the Giants need is for the Dodgers to get him, but I wish this deal could be sweetened more or the Giants can figure out what to add from here.

    Ohtani would be cool lol.

I would love Ohtani to the Padres so we could get another huge AJ Preller off-season extravaganza. Especially with how slow moving this off-season has been so far.

Ohtani's list is very heavy on West Coast teams... I hope he goes to Seattle, perfect fit for him.

Which would be fine if they didn't have the whole Ichiro thing.

Pretty sure he said he wants to go somewhere that hasn't had a Japanese star because he doesn't want to be in anyone's shadow or be compared to anyone.

And right after I say that, it appears the Mariners may be the close frontrunner.

And the Yankees are out of the Ohtani sweepstakes. Wow.

All these teams being told they are out on Ohtani. Whole NL East minus the Phillies are out so far. Hopefully we have a shot.

That's weird as hell. What in the world do the Phils have that most teams on the east coast don't? Maybe he wants to try a Philly Cheese steak?

He has said in interviews he wants to visit the Rocky Balboa statue at the Philadelphia Art Museum. Haha.

Couple of things here. Ohtani has suggested he would like to play in a small market.

The reason the Padres and Mariners are still hanging around (Seattle has given the full court press) is the Nippon Ham Fighters have their spring training at the Peoria Sports Complex (home of the M's and Padres) so he has comfort level there. Nippon has been training there for 2 years now.

Otani's translator is Hideo Nomo's son. Nomo works for the Padres.
Otani's old trainer is head of sports medicine for the Padres
Otanis agent is from San Diego
Nippon had a working agreement with the Padres and Randy Smith is involved with their club
                        Prefers small market.
                        Trained at Peoria Sports complex.
Our front office and staff besides Nomo, also has Takeshi Saito and Akinori Otsuka

At this point I'll be extremely disappointed if he's not a Padre

He probably ends up in Seattle. That's really the only way he gets everyday at bats unless the Padres on playing him in RF on a regular basis. In Seattle he can DH. DiPoto has stated if Ohtani signs with the M's they'll move Nelson Cruz to RF.

Not saying he wont end up in SD, just saying Seattle has more of what he wants to do (hit and pitch).

Don't count Texas out in all of this either.

LOL, hey man you never know. The Padres do have everything you listed going for them. I'm just skeptical the Padres will let him play RF. We've all been surprised before and A.J. Preller tends to do things out of the ordinary.
