If the Phillies do that! The Angels will be on the upswing. "Simba" at short and Hernandez at 2B. With Trout and Pujols they will give Houston a run. Especially if their young pitching is healthy.

I really think Ohtani is only interested in 4 teams...Angels, Dodgers, Giants, and (marginally), the Cubs...

Doubt Seattle, Texas, and SD are really in consideration. My guess is the Angels, due to the DH...

...but if he is more championship-minded, it will be hard for him to stay away from Bellinger, Seager, Kershaw, etc...

I feel like the Cubs are a long shot.

Think both LA teams are out as hes said he wanted a smaller market team. Think it comes down to SF, Seattle and SD honestly

I personally think its between the Padres and Mariners.

He has ties to the Padres, but the Mariners give him the ability to both hit (DH) and pitch at the major league level.

I think Mariners might be the favorite but who knows it wasn't that long ago that the Yankees were considered the favorite.

the fact that the Cubs are in it despite his preference to go to a smaller market and in the west coast... I'm totally reading into that.

Red Sox and Tyler Thornburg agree to deal avoiding arbitration.

I think Padres are the fav because we can promise more ABs if he fails. DH in the AL is counted on for production and who knows how long they will keep him in the lineup if he can't cut it, especially on a contending team. In the NL he is guaranteed at bats at least while pitching. He also can get acclimated easier since we aren't expecting to contend this year, but have a lot of help in a loaded farm system very soon.

FWIW Ohtani only told the Yankees he wanted to play in a market smaller than NYC (the 2nd biggest market in the US, I think). Dave Dombrowski said yesterday that he was not told that Otani didn't wanna bring in a bigger market.

I don't even think he told us that, I think Cash said he "got the feeling". Aren't the Dodgers getting a meeting?

He didn't actually say he didn't want to play with another Japanese star, Morosi said several GMs had "a feeling".

I think there are pros and cons to Ohtani joining any of his 7 finalists. I am just glad the Cubs made the first cut. The way the fanbase treated Fukudome, I'm almost surprised a NPB player really wants to come here. We have had Uehara and Muni since then, but I remember all manner of racist t-shirts with Fukudome. You'd have to think a Japanese player would prefer the coasts, especially Dr. Dre's coast.

The Padres would only be the favorite if Ohtani doesn't care about winning, lol.

Reading the tea leaves is fun, but hopefully he makes his mind up soon.
