With the Yankees missing out oh Otani, they are now shifting their focus to the Cubs Kyle Schwarber.

I don't either. They "panicked" and signed Dexter Fowler last offseason, now they are wanting to trade away their future for a player on the backside of his career that demands a lot of money?

We are losing our way and straying away from what we've done best, which is build from within.

With all this drama around him, a pretty lackluster destination.

Cant knock him for this decision if he picks SD. Kids in a lose-lose situation. Picks a top team like LaD, Stros, Sox or Yanks and he gets destroyed for taking the easy way out. Picks a team like the Rangers and he gets destroyed for taking top amount available. Picks a team like SD and gets destroyed for it being an underw elming decision.

Both the Mariners and Angels have acquired $1 million in international slot money. Gearing up for Ohtani from what it sounds like.

Both picked it up from the Twins. Once Jelfry Marte failed his physical (Twins were gonna give him most of their remaining pool), were out on Ohtani and the Angels swooped in and grabbed two of the better ex-Braves internationals, the Twins were left holding a big bag of money. Fortunately for them, the value of international pool money is at an all time high, which allowed the Twins to add a couple of solids prospects from the 2017 draft in Jacob Pearson and David Banuelos from the Angels and Mariners respectively.

I imagine both teams are gearing up for Ohtani. However, if the Angels miss out, they can use this money they just acquired on Maitan (or the other ex-Braves guy they came to terms with), rather than dipping into their pool for next year. I don't see an obvious plan B for DiPoto, but with his gun-slinging history, I'm sure he'll figure out a way to use this acquired money.

Cards are looking at a Longoria and Colome package deal from TB. Wonder if Longo would waive his NTC. And wonder if the Cards pull this off, if they stop there or try and add Ozuna too

                          Ohtani...

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic writes that there are those in the game who wonder if Ohtani’s decision has already been made. The expedited manner in which Ohtani eliminated 23 teams and then met with seven finalists has been a point of frustration for some clubs, Rosenthal writes, noting that execs from some East coast teams have privately wondered why they were asked to put so much time into their presentations for Ohtani when he ultimately eliminated the East coast in one swoop.

Sounds like a lot of whining to me. It's a business and it's their job to make a pitch. He is not obligated to take a set amount of time to "make his decision". Maybe he did have his mind made up, but wanted to see if any of the other teams could offer anything that intrigued him enough to give him pause. None of us know, but I don't think it really matters.

                              I don't mind Colome.

I want nothing to do with Longoria.

To me he's in a can't lose. If he joins a top team... Who cares? This is baseball, he's still going to have to go out and make his pitches and work his at bats. Titles are far from guaranteed in this game. If he takes the most money (which would be I think less than a million more than the other guys), he's already sacrificing a couple hundred million by not waiting 2 years. The underwhelming decision thing I just don't buy.
