Yes, the Yankees made it so much worse with the 10 year "extension" in 2007 (remember how MLB was pissed that they announced in during the Red Sox clinching the World Series?).

If I'm right. I think Stanton has an opt out clause in 2020. Not 100% on that. But worth noting.

The more I think about it the more I like it. We can potentially get an MVP for Starlin Castro and a few prospects that we weren't coveting.

He's got an opt out in 3 years. He's 28. If he goes A-Rod with the Rangers, averages 50/year, Bryce and Machado (and then Trout) set the market at an absurd 40 mil AAV for their next contracts, he could opt out and get another 10 year 300 mil from someone, possibly his hometown dream team Dodgers. That would be best case for us. Starlin and a few low level prospects for a much better chance in this 3 year Boone window for a ring.

If he doesn't opt out, it could get ugly but it may not be terrible if his bat ages well. Time will tell.

The way I see it the Yankees are gonna spend $$$ either way. Because why not. They have it. The majority of the big contracts are off the books.

Stantons contract is nothing compared to what the Yankees would be throwing at Harper.

Now they have incredible protection in that lineup. Especially for Judge and Sanchez.

Stanton is injury prone sure... But the man is in his prime and constantly puts up huge numbers. Now he can rest with the DH option in play.

In addition sounds like Castro is gone, more money off the books.. which gives Torres dibs on second.

Now if we were throwing away big time prospects then I'd be against it. But that's not the case. My guess is Chance Adams is gone maybe a few fringe starting pitching prospects. Meh. . That's fine. Sheffield is a lock to stay in pinstripes from what I've heard. So I'm ok with that.

All in all it makes alot of sense to me.

It was time for Joe to go. Some of the players weren't crazy about him. The Gary Sanchez crap was irrirating and ridiculous. He made the most egregious mistake in the playoffs I've ever seen short of Showalter leaving Britton out to dry. Had the Yankees lost the Cleveland series, That would have fallen squarely on Girardi's shoulders.

And just knowing alot of people in the Yankee base. Girardi wasn't exactly loved by the fans. He had an extremely dull personality and I personally grew very tired of him.

Now I wish him the best and I'm not convinced Boone is necessarily the answer.

But will I miss Joe's managing style. Not the slightest. ..

Good. The Phillies only have to see Stanton for 3 games next season instead of 18.

I wrote a blog for the Giants and where they may/could go next: https://forums.operationsports.com/B...hat-is-plan-g/

Don't take this in poor taste, but I wonder what Jeter and the Marlins would be doing with Jose Fernandez if they were cleaning up shop, whether they would keep or deal him.

Is it just me, or does the AL seem much more compelling and just overall of higher quality right now? The Yankees, the Red Sox, the Indians, the Twins, the Astros, and the Angels all are really solid teams, plus teams like the Rangers, Blue Jays, Mariners on the fringe.

In the NL it feels like the Dodgers, then the Nats/Cubs...then a whole lot of garbage.

Looks like the Yanks are taking on $265 of the $295. Plus shedding Castro's salary.

That’s the reason why the Yankees aren’t giving up any premium prospects.

Worth it. It’s not everyday you acquire an MVP caliber player for no premium prospects. Plus who knows, if these crazy numbers that are being talked about for Harper and Machado actually come to be the salary they are taking on in the Stanton deal could look like a bargain.

Also reading Stanton was the same price as Castro+Holliday, and that the Yankees net addition to the payroll was 14 million over the next 2 years.
