They'd have to use MLB guys to get them, but they have the firepower out of Happ/Baez/Russell/Almora/Schwarber

To me, still not enough to get either of Yelich or a pitcher like Cole.

Well with Jeter running the Marlins you don't need great prospects to get their best players.
          See the Stanton deal!

People need to get over the Stanton deal. It was never about getting top prospects. It was solely to get rid of his contract. Thats it.

Agreed. Jeter and co showed their hand too early letting everyone know they were looking to slash payroll. Couple that with Stanton's massive contract and teams weren't going to overpay, or hell even equal pay, what it should've cost to land Stanton in a trade.

Teams knew the Marlins wanted to slash payroll and the choice was either move Stanton and his contract, or sell off the entire roster beside him, thus making him extremely upset and most likely demanding to be traded.

Sources “close to Hosmer” that say the first baseman has received nine-figure offers from both the Padres and the Royals.

San Diego, per the report, has dangled a seven-year deal at a healthy $140MM price tag — about $20MM more than had previously been suggested. But the incumbent Kansas City club is said to have topped that bid with a contract that would include a $147MM guarantee.

Why do I get the feeling one of these clubs is bidding against itself?

Gosh...anybody else remember Kevin Brown getting a $100MM contract and it was such a shocker? Now it's like the norm.

Can't believe that was almost 20 years ago.

Trust me, im good lol wasnt attacking you in anyway. Just get tired of people thinking Jeter did his old team a favor and just gave them Stanton for the hell of it. See a lot of this thought everywhere.

I get the feeling that club is San Diego.

The Royals would LOVE to have Hosmer back but they went into this offseason with the very realistic thought that he'd be gone. I doubt Dayton Moore is silly enough to go bidding against himself.

                            Or is he?
Looks like the Royals have made a 7 year offer too.
Will it be the Padres or Royals?

Padres re-sign Carter Capps, avoiding arbitration.

Hosmer is a good player, but 7 years and 9 figures are not terms I would toss out to sign him.

Interesting how he alternates good years (odd years) and meh years (even years). He truly will never have a place on the Giants.
