Jays acquire Yangervis Solarte from Padres.

Given that he is a starting infielder, I wonder what they have planned for him. Do they plan on trading Tulo or Donaldson? Or doing some platoon with Solarte and Díaz at 2B(and Travis becomes a bench player)?

Travis will do his part by being injured for half the season.

It's more likely that they just don't trust Tulo or Travis to be healthy and that if they have a rough first half, that they'll trade Donaldson, and have Solarte through 2020.

Between Solarte and Diaz, the Jays have acquired a lot of team control for cheap, but I'm just not sure how much they move the needle to being a contender.

Don't think there's much they can do to improve given what they have. Just hope they don't end up making this like the 00s Jays all over again where they were the true definition of a .500 team. Not good enough to make playoffs, but ownership still wants to sell tickets by putting out a team that can win around half their games.

That's one way to look at it, there's another way where it becomes almost a quasi platoon whereby Diaz, Travis, Tulo and Solarte will be splitting time in the infield. I could actually see the Jays having Tulo playing DH a bit this year as well. Either way, this shores up a lot of the mess that was the infield in 2017. I believe Goins and Barney were -1.3 whereas this new combo is 1.3 WAR.

Perhaps one of them could man the outfield? The ideal situation (IMO) is Hernandez, Alford or Pompey playing well flanking Pillar, but as of now, there is some uncertainty for the Jays in the OF.

Don't get me wrong, improving the bottom of the 25 man roster can be a cost effective way to add a couple of wins here and there. The post AA Jays management has done a pretty good job of that, besides the Morales debacle.

For this year, the Jays could use another starter and a lefty out of the 'pen. If their payroll target is the same as last year, they have 15 M to do so. Tony Watson makes sense here, and maybe Jaime Garcia does too. If things don't work out, the Jays have some trade chips to help transition to the next era.

Watson makes a crap load of sense and was one of the names Blue Jays insiders pegged as a sure fire fit this offseason. I need to think more on the idea of Jaime Garcia but on paper that might not be too bad either.

Atkins was on record today saying that the Jays are getting a lot of attention on the trade market due to some depth that they have which can lead to some acquisitions.

There's also the whole Jay Bruce thing. If the Jays are one of the 3 teams with a 3 year offer on the table for him he might end up coming north of the border.

An OF with Pillar-Bruce and then a 3rd guy with lots of speed would be perfect combination. I'm guessing signing both Cain and Bruce would be too much.

Seems like they got their IF sorted out, so if they can get the OF done soon, get a proper backup C and then fix up the pitching, they'll be ready for ST.

Listening to MLB Network radio this morning, only 31 of 178 FAs have signed.

                          This is getting ridicilously slow.

I'm surprised some of the super agents around aren't throwing out the "C" word yet. I mean, that's not whats going on per se but if you want to put a scare into owners i'd throw it out there.

My thoughts exactly. Theo must have assurances that adding Almora gets a deal done. Not totally jazzed about adding Cain. It seems to be going under the radar that he will be playing 99% of 2018 already at age 32.
