I didn't see the play you're talking about, but a runner can do anything once the catcher is in front of the plate. The runner only has to avoid the catcher if they don't have the ball and they're giving the runner a lane.

I misread your post originally. That's definitely an illegal play by Givens. He's blocking the path to the plate without the ball so the runner should be safe.

That should be the classic example of the blocking the plate rule.

Interesting. Call on the field was originally an out, and after a challenge by the Yankees it was upheld.

I guess maybe you can interpret it that the throw pulled Givens into the lane, but that seems like a really easy call of blocking the path to me

Really disappointing loss for the Cubs tonight in a totally winnable game. Between them working over Woodruff and leaving a ton of baserunners, Kyle Hendricks sucking hard in the 5th inning, Justin Wilson going into "Wilson Mode" walking 3 in a row, and Kris Bryant botching a throw that a high school player makes easily--it was a total team effort.

It started last year, but Andrelton Simmons bat is really starting to catch up with his glove. He's turning in to a solid offensive player.

And we have another critical misplay from a third baseman tonight. Matt Chapman with a 2-run throwing error.

So wait, I saw that yellow line before but thought nothing of it. Forget when... why did the Angles lower the home run height in right field? I thought it was great where it was before.

The wall in Anaheim is incomprehensibly stupid.

He saved two runs the previous batter.

Yeah, but if he makes an accurate throw across the diamond there, the A's are up 9-7 instead of losing 12-9. Pretty huge mistake. First team to 15 will probably win.
