Lol, Marlins really lost 20-1! At what point does mlb even step in? This will be the worst team in mlb history, and done on purpose.

Re: 3/29 - 4/8 Game Discussion Thread
Just saw the last play of the Padres/Astros game. It drives me absolutely crazy that pitchers are so passive on pop ups. How about walking the 40 feet from the mound and save your first baseman from having to run 100+ feet while liking straight up.

Or that, too. That is a tough play for the catcher, just with how the ball will continue to move toward the infield with the spin. I just get frustrated with pitchers that stand on the mound as if they're blind to the ball in the air and expect everyone else on the field to make every play that is in their vicinity.Comment

I made the play but after the inning my coaches told me I should let the infielders handle pop-ups and just get out of the way.
So I wonder how much of this sort of thing is told to pitchers to avoid mistakes or potential injury."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I thought the same thing but then I think back to being in high school, pitching, and calling off the third baseman on a pop-up that drifted all the way to third.

My pitchers are usually my best players, so I tell them to get every ball they can.

I know they probably bow from hitting come college time (and pitching is astronomically harder to hit against at the MLB level than the NCAA, much less any level before it), but you'd think there would be more that look like they at least have a clue at the plate.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

This does always prompt me to ask the question then as to why so many pitchers are poor hitters?

Mike Wright is not very good. Yankees basically have the backup squad in and its 5-0.

Well, Jake Arrieta is not sharp here in the 1st inning.

Arrieta gives up 3 runs and it took 31 pitches to get out of the first. Hopefully first start jitters or something.

Well if Jason Heyward's defense is gonna be like this now, I really don't see much use for him at all. Two Brewers XBH's in the past 2 days that really should have been outs.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment
