Renteria to Red Sox?
ESPN's Peter Gammons is reporting. In fact, Cardinals sources told Gammons Saturday morning that they were so positive that Renteria was going to sign with Boston that St. Louis is trying to sign Orlando Cabrera and Placido Polanco.Tags: None -

Theo's got his hands in just about everything right now.Comment

Re: Renteria to Red Sox?
Walt Jocketty supposedly got pretty frustrated yesterday as he was finding out that Renteria's agent wanted a 40 million dollar contract. Instead of overpaying like that and wasting time negotiating, Jocketty has supposedly turned his interest to Cabrera. Renteria is a great shortstop, but he is not worth $10 mil per year.Comment

Re: Renteria to Red Sox?
I'd be surprised if the Red Sox are meeting his demands. That just doesn't seem like a Theo contract. I'm wondering what this means for Hanley Ramirez, perhaps they envision a move to second or third for him? Or, they want to trade him for a big name player.Comment

Re: Renteria to Red Sox?
It would be pretty ironic if the Sox and Cards end up swapping Shortstops. I think Cabrera has more of an upside but he's definately a National League type of guy so it makes sense for him to go back to the NL. Renterria will be a darling in Boston due to his great defense tho he'll have to put up some decent numbers at the plate.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
