I think they'll shift Bay to center, Craig'll stay in right and Lawton goes to left.

When we traded for Bay, one of his big selling points was that he can handle all three OF spots with above average ability.

The official website of the Pittsburgh Pirates with the most up-to-date information on news, tickets, schedule, stadium, roster, rumors, scores, and stats.

Lloyd says Lawton will play RF. Hmmm, interesting. So that means Bay in LF, Tike in CF, C. Wilson at 1B. Where's Mackowiak?

If C. Wilson is traded, who's at 1B? Something seems amiss here unless there is another trade in the works. However, the only one we heard involves C. Wilson and that leaves a hole at 1B....

        Stay tuned, I guess.

If Wilson is not traded and the Pirates re-sign Daryl Ward they will platoon at 1B. The Pirates will probably try and trade Wilson for a Catcher, a few teams that come to mind: Colorado (Charles Johnson), Tampa Bay (Toby Hall), Arizona (Robby Hammock) and Toronto (Kevin Cash) as an outside possibility. Mackowiak will get to play regularly thanks to his ability to play so many positions, Ty Wigginton will start at 3B and we may see Lloyd use Castillo, Sanchez and Bobby Hill at 2B (this will be the Pirates big position battle this spring). Good move for both teams, rarely do we see a trade that actually benefits both sides.

                Whew, there's a mouthful.

I agree that the Pirates may trade Wilson but from what I understand the Pirates are real close to getting Charles Johnson for a lower level prospect not Wilson. Johnson still has to waive his no trade clause and I believe the Pirates are going to give Johnson an extension if he comes to Pittsburgh.

Mackowiak will always play somewhere. He is a huge part to the team. He can play almost all the positions and can fill in nicely at the plate. Don't know where he'll play but he'll get some time somewhere.

As for second base. There sure are a lot of guys for one spot. Right now I think it's got to be Castillo's to lose. He had a good rookie year last year and came on real strong at the end. Bobby Hill may have doomed himself to a permentant bench role because of how well he did as a pinch hitter last year and Sanchez still has something to prove after being hurt last year(even though last check he was tearing it up in winter ball). I wouldn't be surprised to see a shake up there sometime with either Castillo or Sanchez going to 3rd and possibly Ty over at first.

EDIT: I take all the Johnson stuff back. It looks like the Pirates and Devil Rays have pulled back their offers to Colorado because of Johnsons demand for a contract extension. Pirates may now be intrested in the ageless wonder Benito Santigo, or Mike Matheny.
