I think Kolb is a quality closer. He was lights out last year and in '03. The only problem is he doesn't strike guys out but as long as he gets them out he'll do all right.

I love this minor league line on Cappellan from last year...

            14-4 2.32 ERA 152 K in 140 IP

With the way our pitching prospects have been dropping, this is great for the Brewers. Mike Maddux has done wonders with a few of our pitchers(Adams, Kolb, Doug Davis), so hopefully he can help Cappellan develop another pitch or two and make him into a solid pitcher. If he can develop into a #3 behind Davis and Sheets, I'll be more than happy.

I was hoping they'd deal Kolb now anyways. His stock is high after his All-Star season, and Boras is his agent. Brewers would never be able to re-sign him. And let's be honest, the Brewers don't really have much to close right now, so there isn't a point in having a great closer, lol.

Plus, Kolb had a horrible final two months, posting a 5.85 ERA and blowing four saves(and he had 10 BB in those final two months, when he only allowed five all season before that). Either hitters were getting to him, or he was becoming fatigued. And considering he only pitched 57.1 innings, fatigue really shouldn't be an issue.

Like the trade, now we need to find a way to dump Podsednik while he still has some value, and then re-sign Sheets.

How does Podsednik to the Giants for P Jerome Williams sound?, reportedly that is the offer on the table.

I would be fine with that trade, but this team really needs a bat. In the second half of last season, this offense was anemic. With Hidalgo and Dye off the table, Gwynn playing horrible in the minors/fall leagues, and Krynzel not showing a ton last year in his late season callup, it'd be nice to see them target an outfielder. Doug Melvin really can't think Damien Miller is gonna turn this offense around, lol...

I like this trade...if he's even decent we can have a quality 4th man after Santos . We still have Santos don't we? Now we need to get around two more bats to keep the lineup from self-destructing.

If we have a quality pitcher behind Santos, then Yost screwed something up because Santos isn't a quality. He's a #5 pitcher at best. He overachieved the first half of the season, and still finished the year with an ERA of 4.97. I hope they put Capuano ahead of them in the rotation...

Well, if we can't swing any deals for anymore bats, I guess we can always give Wes Obermueller and Brooks Kieschnick tryouts for the outfield. They're better with the bat than most of our position players...
