What are the Rangers doing?
What's going on here? We give Hidalgo $5 million? We're offering Valentin 2 yrs $6-7 million? What happened to "by trading AROD, we will have flexibility to add pitching in the future." I guess this is my thinking, I know the Hidalgo signing is not long term, but....why not take the $5 million, and the $3 or so million per year of Valentin and package that with perhaps another $1 or 2 million and get some bang for the buck and sign Delgado. Trying to predict what kind of season Hidalgo is going to have is like playing the the roulett table, and Valentin hasn't had a good year in well....yea. The guy has power and that's it. He either hits a homerun, or does nothing. At least with Delgado, he drives in over 100 runs, hits 35+ bombs, hits .280 or better, and most importantly....most importantly, the one thiing the Rangers need more than anything....HE WALKS!!!! He's walked over 100 times something like 5 straight seasons. I don't understand. Delgado could fill the DH role, and play some 1st base, while Texiera learns right field. And for god sake, please...add one pitcher...just one. I will take Ricardo Rodriguez, and Juan Dominguez, and Colby Lewis pitching,...but please, add a Carl Pavano, or something. I just can't take going into next season with Kenny Rogers and Ryan Drese being our top two pitchers...oh yea, Chan Ho Park could compete too.

Re: What are the Rangers doing?
Just saw on Sportsnet that the Rangers are no longer going after Delgado because they can't meet his asking price.
Delgado is looking for a 64mil/4 yr contract. -

Re: What are the Rangers doing?
Are you talking about Jose Valentin, he is whats wrong with baseball today. He hits 220 with 30 homers, and is a pathatic fielder. And he makes mucho dough. He flat out sucks balls. Get on your knees and pray that he doesnt come to your team.Comment

Re: What are the Rangers doing?
I'm praying! The rangers do not need that type of player....they need someone who works the pitcher, works the count, and WALKS! I mean, if you're not going to add pitching, then please add someone that gets on base! You are exactly right poster, when you hit 30 homeruns and hit actually .212, then your only base hits are coming off homeruns. We already have one of those guys, his name is Alfonso Soriano. God I hope they trade him too. He's a butcher in the field, and has terrible, no worse that terrible, God awful plate discipline. If Delgado wants what you say he does, that would be, about $16 million per year, and that I agree would be tough to let go of, but there has to be something better than what these two guys have to offer.Comment

Re: What are the Rangers doing?
As far as Valentin goes, I don't know WHAT was up with THAT...
but in regards to Hidalgo, I think you'll be pleased with him... he's been kind of streaky offensively, when he's on, he's REALLY on, and he's arguably got one of the best arms in big leagues for an OF'er.Comment

Re: What are the Rangers doing?
I pray they don't get Valentin. Where would he play? Other than giving Young an occasional day off I don't see where he fits. He's not a DH (certainly doesn't hit good enough) and I really don't think he's worth of a Young back-up, unless they're paying him 1-2 mil. a year.
They could definitely spend that money better elsewhere!!!Comment

Re: What are the Rangers doing?
Valentin would play SS, Young would move back to 2B, Alfonso Soriano would move to CF, Laynce Nix to LF and Kevin Mench would DH. Hope that helps!.
And to Solution: don't expect to see Colby Lewis in the Rangers Starting Rotation next season-he was claimed by the Tigers at the end of october.Comment
