Baez hits homer #24, a new career high. Let's see if the Cubs have enough offense to overcome another poor Jon Lester start (the regression monster is getting him bad).

Was kind of funny to see a Baez no doubter where he turns around and checks to see if the catcher is ok because he knew it was a HR.

        Sign Andrew Miller

That would be ideal. Or we could just toss $300M at Machado and move Seager to 1B, that would improve 2 positions with one signing. But doubt we have the funds for that, especially with Cano on the books. We desperately need a CF so Jones and Pollock would be ideal and relatively cheap, as Pollock due to his injury history may only command a 1 or 2 year deal. Kuechel would slot nicely into the #2 slot. Rotation of Paxton, Kuechel, Gonzalez, Felix, and whoever would be the 5th guy is rock solid. Especially the top 3. Andrew Miller would also be a nice addition and would work as a swing guy in the BP, something we haven't really had in recent years. And if we want to contend we cant afford to lose Cruz's bat in the middle. But all this is wishful thinking.

Sort of realistic thinking--at least the bolded parts. Pollock will do much better than a cheap 1 or 2 year deal. Good luck with that. Keuchel and Miller will both get $15-20M/yr.

Seattle has a lot of money on the books for 2019, $51M for just Felix and Cano. Then, there's Seager, Leake, Segura, Gordon, and Nicasio adding another $72M. Paxton will get a nice raise as well, let's say something conservative like $8M. So, your squad is at $131M for just 8 players assuming everyone else walks (like Nelson Cruz) and not counting other arb-eligibles or minimum wage guys. This offseason will test Jerry DiPoto for sure, lol. How sustainable is this?

I thought Austin Hedges was supposed to be some defensive whiz, yet he doesn't seem to know how to position his catcher's mitt to avoid getting hit by bats.

"Experimental Gabe" showed back up today in the dugout and put his closer in in the 7th inning to face left hand slugger Justin Bour.

            Guess how that worked out.

P.S. Phils' PBP man, "Forgetful" Tom McCarthy doing a bang up job as always today.

Now there's some BOTIZZO! Rizzo pinch hitting for Bote and bloops a game-tying RBI hit to left.

So Edwards throws 4 straight balls to Jankowski in an 0-2 count with 2 outs in the 8th inning of a tie game? Serves him right that Jankowski came around to score the go-ahead run. Bad pitching. Cubs really struggling with fundamental baseball this series (Baez and Bote both making outs on the bases, Lester giving up an extra homer right after Javy's, and Schwarber continuing to get rung up watching close 2-strike pitches also comes to mind today).

Phillies win their 5th straight and sweep the 4 game series with the Marlins.

Awesome moment for my son today. He and I had seats directly next to the Phillies bullpen this afternoon. Phillies reliever Victor Arano threw my son a ball without him even asking for it. A few innings later Arano took the ball back and signed it and then handed it to all the other relievers to sign too! Everyone is on the ball except Pat Neshek who wasn't in the bullpen yet at the time. My son was so happy to get that ball.

That was a terrible call to end the game. That pitch was a foot off the plate

Angel Hernandez's strike zone was...interesting. Randy Rosario got a ridiculously favorable call in the top 9th against Hosmer and Rizzo just got punched out to end the game on an equally ridiculous call.

totally disagree bad outing by Edwards but he will be fine but all this one says is Rosario needs to be strictly a loogy and not used in most high leverage situations.

After sweeping the season series against the Jays, the A's sweep the Tigers to sweep the season against them too.

I'm waiting for this starting pitching to implode but it just keeps doing the job. KD, Chapman and Olson keep doing their job too, HR from each of them today.

Since June 16th, the A's are now 33-10. That's crazy.
