That's... that's what DHY had just said. I merely responded to what Costas had suggested on MLB Network.

The thing bout the Gardner HBP is that it was clearly unintentional. Porcello's not going to deliberately hit a guy on an 0-2 count. What Severino did was actually quite dangerous as he DELIBERATELY threw the ball in the head area of Betts. Cora had every reason to go nuts and honestly, if I were the umpire i'd have thrown Severino out rather than give both teams a warning but that's just me.

Has there ever been a warning issued that wasn't given to both teams?

I'm not sure, that's actually a good question.

I knew we'd regret not trading for Eovaldi.

Pedro Strop is so under appreciated. This series has been way tighter than I hoped. Still best Record in the NL without their best SP, Best hitter, Best reliever... It's a testament to their depth.

So, I'm looking at the Yankees' schedule and no wonder they're a bazillion games over .500. Boston is really the only tough team they've played/will play in quite some time...here is a long stretch of schedule after the All-Star break where they play exactly one good team (maybe 2 if you count TB). I realize the AL is an extreme haves/have-nots league this season, but even so this is definitely easy mode.

NYM, TB, KC, BAL, BOS, CWS, TEX, NYM, TB, TOR, MIA, BAL, CWS, DET

In September, their schedule will stiffen up a bit with OAK, SEA, TB, and BOS x2.

Yes...that is why our record is so good, an easy schedule.

The Red Sox' record may appear to be concerning, it's worth examining two things. First, how have the other playoff teams fared against the playoff field? Second, how have recent World Series winners performed during the regular season against playoff teams?

They're not playing great baseball by any stretch of the imagination, but they do have a chance to take 3/4 from SD tomorrow. That's something. Strop has been very good--he's put up ~1 WAR per season ever since the Cubs got him. Very good for a non-closer RP.

I do worry about the punishment the bullpen has absorbed cumulatively. It's been a strength for most of the season, but Morrow's hurt, Duensing's hurt, Cishek is on pace for a career-high in appearances. Edwards has been hurt, Rosario seems worn out, Montgomery is in the rotation and nearing his innings maximum (130?), Butler got traded. The acquisitions of Chavez and Kintzler certainly help, but I want to see as little of Farrell/Bass/Hancock/Norwood/Mazzoni/Maples as possible down the stretch. And as little as possible of Justin Wilson in high leverage situations.

No, the Yankees are a good team. My intention wasn't to say otherwise. I am just saying there's a mile on either side of today until the Yankees play another good team. It certainly doesn't hurt.

Yeah I get that, it was the part about understanding why we're so far above 500. Boston has 12 more wins against teams under 500 than us. Was just strange to read I guess.

Velocity was never his issue. He never had a finishing pitch and threw a fastball with virtually no movement. Now that he has a cutter with movement he will be a half way decent pitcher.
