I just can't stand our bullpen...it's like they believe it's there job to put the first guy on every time.

        Our bullpen...just infuriating.

Phillies, of course, taking care of business against the Padres.

I just switched over to the Phils-Pads game, and I swear I just heard Tony Gwynn in the booth. It was a bit spooky.

Is that his son? Is he still playing baseball?

No...he hasn't played in 3 or 4 years. Started broadcasting back in 2016.

Hmm, been out of the picture there.

In other news, Bonds was in the booth for a half-inning, and they talked about how he ran out to LF in uniform for the pregame warm-up, and how it looked like he could have strapped on pants and cleats, grabbed a bat and hit one in the Cove. He said he could. God, I truly believe him.

I miss seeing him play so much. Gone too soon... from the field, that is.

We've been too focused on Betts or Trout to see that the AL MVP is truly the sweet, sweet angel J.D. Martinez.

The Red Sox themselves actually said that the team MVP is JD Martinez. I was watching a Red Sox game a week or so ago and the Red Sox broadcasters said they had asked each man on the coaching staff if Betts was the AL MVP and they each said he wasn't even the MVP of his own team, which surprised me.

Just saw the video, but what Ramon Laureano did about half an hour ago for the Athletics might be one of the most impossible things I've ever seen.

Betts has a massive +3 win advantage over Martinez. There's simply no objective case to make for Martinez being a better player than Betts this year. Not even close.

EDIT: Martinez hasn't even been better at the plate than Betts, leaving aside defense and baserunning. 178 wRC+ to Betts' 194.

Tonight was also Craig Kimbrel's 100th save with Boston (34th of the season).
