Who would be better to have Jones or Beltran?

The concept of value is in play here. I think Jones is a 12 mil guy where Beltran is looking at becoming a 20 mil guy. Both are very good CFs but I give the Jones the edge on this even playing in Turner field. Beltran has better offensive numbers but part of that was playing in that bandbox called minutemaid. Turner field was built for pitchers so naturally Jones would have inferior power numbers but if both were to play in the same stadium, would they be comparable? Its a question. As far as I know Jones isnt nearly the SB threat Beltran and by a wide margin. Hitting for average. Is Beltran going to be better at hitting for average? Its a big question. So then factoring that Jones makes 12 mil and Beltran around 20 who would you prefer?

if all things were equal, I'd rather have Beltran. I like the fact that he can steal bases. Andruw doesn't steal anymore. I'd still take Andruw given 12 versus 20 million though. As good as he is, I don't think Beltran is worth 20 mllion a year. I think Beltran will hit for a better average. He's a lifetime .284 hitter. Jones has hit .268. Until last year, I would have said that Jones would normally hit more homeruns, but Beltran hit 38 to 29 for Andruw.

5 years ago, I would have said Jones, now its not even close. Beltran is one of the best all around players in basball, while Jones is older and is starting to break down.

I dont think Jones is even 30 yet. I remember him being very young in the 1996 WS (19 I think). Anyway, what if either player gets injured? Wouldnt you feel less uneasy if its a 12 mil player...plus with the extra 8 maybe you could get some quality depth.

Beltran's not making 20 mil, there's just a "threat" of that much money going his way is all..

I like Beltran better myself.... more well-rounded player, no slight on Andruw, as I think Andruw or Edmonds would be the next best thing to Beltran.

They have enough money to get Beltran plus quality depth. Don't be fooled. I just love Beltran's game. And like the previous poster said, he is not getting 20 mil. He will get vlad money which is very fair because they are players who can do it all.

Im aware that the Trib is fully capable of out-Steinbrennering Steinbrenner but the reality is they will probably impose restrictions on themselves...one being that they have to get rid of Sosa before they make a real play for Beltran. At least thats what seems to be going on now which would be consistant with the past (although we all know they used to be a lot worse about opening the checkbook).
