Ummm... I'll take two hot dogs and a nachos grande for him. Better yet, if they take him, I'll pay them two hot dogs and a nachos grande.

However, what I'm hearing is that $40M is for 3 years while the offer from Baltimore I believe is $48M for 4 years. This may happen next week. No announcement would be made to offset Pedro's big moment with the press.

I like Phillips behind the plate.

You ask this question like Piazza has a ton of value. The guy is worth an average major leaguer or a couple borderline pospects at best. Not to mention the Mets will probably have to eat some of his salary if a deal is to get done.

Trade him to Washington and offer to pay for part of their stadium. Maybe the urinals or something.

For those doubting if Pedro is worth it, some snipits from the media:
y the time Pedro Martínez was introduced at Shea Stadium yesterday, tens of thousands of T-shirts with his name and number were being mass-produced. Hundreds of fans had called or sent e-mail messages to the Mets expressing interest in season tickets. And a couple of free-agent players had contacted Omar Minaya about joining the team.
"Major league superstar players have called me and said, 'I want to be a Met,' " Minaya said. "Kids in the Dominican or in Venezuela today are saying, 'I want to be a Met.' That's the value of Pedro Martínez. That's the thinking and that's the logic here. That kid in the Dominican who might be the next Pedro Martínez could someday be here because of this signing."
Julio Pabon, the director of Latino Sports, a marketing and promotions firm in the Bronx, said that the Yankees would still be the most popular team among Hispanic fans in New York, but that the Mets could make up ground quickly with Martínez and Minaya. He said he expected Hispanics from the outer boroughs to flock to Shea Stadium next season and adopt the Mets as their own.

I am not worried about Pedro for the first half the contract. It is the back end that worries me. They better pull of the deal for Delgado and sign some bat to play in right. Remeber the Mets next year will start their new cable deal and they will make a lot of money from that.
