Re: Eric Milton signed by...the Reds???
Originally posted by camulosDoes anybody realize that Milton gave up 43 HR's last year? He's let up 192 HR's in 199 career starts and has a career 4.76 ERA. Maybe I'm just getting spoiled as a Red Sox fan but giving Milton $8.5m a year is not a good signing.
Still, the most interesting aspect of all of this to us Reds fans is that they actually spent money to go sign someone like him. Uh oh...You all realize that having signed him, hot dogs at GABP will cost $6.00 and the cheese cup with a pretzel will now be $3.00 instead of $1.00. I miss Marge's concession prices.Last edited by SlimKibbles; 12-27-2004, 06:27 PM.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

Re: Eric Milton signed by...the Reds???
Wow, that's a lot of money for a number 3 (at best) pitcher. Milton is way overrated. But that has been the trend this offseason.Comment

Re: Eric Milton signed by...the Reds???
The Twins were better off trading Milton and getting Carlos Silva and Nick Punto in return. Punto was injured most of last year but Silva put up numbers very similar to Milton's if not slightly better.
Milton:
14-6
4.75 ERA
201 IP
161 K
75 BB
2004 Salary: 9M
Silva:
14-10
4.21 ERA
203 IP
76 K
35 BB
2004 Salary: 340K
Silva doesn't strike out as many batters but their K/BB ratio is almost identical. Besides, Silva is a ground ball pitcher while Milton is a fly ball pitcher (Milton gave up 43 HR to Silva's 23).
Milton was fortunate enough to have good run support in Philadelphia. The Reds have a good lineup too so maybe he'll have a solid year like last, but I think the Reds could find a similar pitcher for a lot cheaper.Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota Twins
Chicago Bulls

Re: Eric Milton signed by...the Reds???
Personally I think the Reds look pretty good on paper. Their definately going to be the underdogs in the division, but look at the Cardinals last year, everyone had them picked 3rd in the division and they won 100+ games. I think their lineup looks better than people give them credit for, I think the only big weak spot they have is starting pitching.Comment

Re: Eric Milton signed by...the Reds???
this signing confirms Walt Jocketty is the Cardinals MVP to me!
considering how much Matt Moriss and Mark Mulder are getting paid this year compared to this!
Morris $2.5 million this year
Mulder $6 million this year
and
Milton $4 million signing bonus, $4 million in 2005
FYI- Moriss had the same ERA as Milton and had more wins I believeComment

Originally posted by glucklichYou might be right that Milton is overpaid but comparing ERAs with Morriss when Milton played in that launching pad is hardly fair.Comment
