A tight strike zone and newcomb dont mix. Though I'd love for him to go to AAA and just constantly work with tight zone umps. Force him to learn control

Jeez, I was watching the Preds. Flip over and it's 8-4 in the top of the 3rd. Maybe if Newcomb put as much effort into developing as he does thinking he is a gift to this earth he'd actually live up to his potential.

This comment seems personal...is there something I don't know?

Any of our resident statisticians have the numbers on Freddie Freeman when swinging at the first pitch? I swear he pops out or grounds out more often than normal when he tries to ambush the first pitch. I wouldn't be surprised if his average when down 0-2 is higher than it is when he puts an 0-0 ball in play.

Just stories I've heard from a few people inside the organization.

For his career, when he swings at the first pitch & puts it in play he's a 413/415/717 hitter with 44 homers.

Real surprising. I just remember all of the negative plays I guess. Thanks for the info.

It was bad for both Freeman and acuna there though. Pitcher is going 3 balls to every batter and you let him off the hook with first pitch swings in back to back swings

Toussaint (knock on wood) actually looking decent so far...refreshing.

While I am a fan of the offensive play of this team I do feel they take it too far at times. They need to be smart and adjust. In a game like this with the pitcher throwing how he is + the ump's zone you shouldn't be looking to ambush that first pitch as much. It isn't as worth it in my opinion.

I still feel we don't hurt ourselves as much at the plate as we do on the bases. At least Inciarte hasn't been trying to steal 3rd everytime he reaches second base like last year, but we still send guys home too often in my opinion. I get making the fielder make a perfect throw, but it feels like we have too many instances of guys being 15 feet away when the throw reaches the plate.

Then again I also felt Freeman was bad when putting the first pitch in play so maybe I'm just remembering all of the outs and not all of the runs we've created being aggressive.

This is true...the Braves were in the top 3 last year in the entire MLB in net runs created taking the extra base. That takes into account all the outs made as well, so that is definitely a positive for us.
