Time for Bryant and Rizzo to get moved down in the order, take some extra BP, or just get sat.

At least split them up in the batting order. They can't play the Marlins all year...and "Bryzzo" went O-fer the series so far, or close to it.

Maddon is going Full Lou Piniella.

        Re: 4/15 - 4/28 Game Discussion Thread

It's April 17th and a lot more baseball to be played obviously but....

Can the Rays run away and hide with the AL East lead? The are currently up 5 1/2 on the Yankees and 7 1/2 on the Red Sox. Can the Rays possibly build up a lead in April that they can carry all the way thru September?

        Thoughts?

I think the Red Sox were up a crazy amount this time last year and even with the season they had we caught up at one point. I don't think it's possible in our division.

LOL...I meant to share my thoughts in my post posing the question, but boss was at office door so I quickly submitted my post.

This was a question that was discussed on local sports station and I thought it was intriguing so I asked here.

My opinion/thought is that I agree with you. I think both the Yankees and the Red Sox are too good for a 5 1/2 game lead on April 17th to be safe enough to carry through to September, nor do I believe that the Rays can expand this lead and hold it for that long. Especially considering the Yankees are so damn beat up right now.

The Red Sox are still hungover from last season. They’ll wake up eventually. And the Yankees will get healthy eventually. I still think one of them wins the division.

When they Rays lost their GM and Maddon at the end of 2014, I thought they were done for. It’s amazing what that organization continues to do competing in that division.

Waking up won't solve their bullpen issues and some of their starting pitching problems. The Red Sox are a flawed team right now. I will say this, their offense WILL wake up eventually. I saw Harold Reynolds do a demo on Mookie Betts. The guy has totally lost his timing and is dead arming it on his swing. That's pretty concerning if you're a Sawx fan.

The Yankees are really banged up right now but out of the two powerhouses I think they have the best shot at overtaking Tampa but in my heart of hearts i'd love to see that little engine that could, go on to win the division. It's amazing what that organization has done over the years and they now have a window of opportunity for at least 3-4 years.

I think another major issue that the Red Sox and Yankees have, is that it's not just that they've got off to bad starts, but that they've "wasted" a lot of easy games. They will almost certainly get their act together, but by that point they will have missed out on a bunch of games that they'd be budgeting to win and will have to play catchup in the games against better teams.

I think the Yankees have enough to beat up on just about anyone and I'd be surprised if they don't catch up to us, as our offence really isn't that great yet, but the Red Sox I think might struggle to catch up. I don't think their pitching staff is good enough.

First pitch Wacha throws to Yelich is a cement-mixer, a bit high, but in the zone - and he took it.

So much for the Bonds treatment. Another one of those thrown in this game and Yelich will be in double figures.

A few years ago I think Thames hit 11 in April and he said he was constantly checked for PED's.

Yea I'm not worried about watching the standings this early. Yankees just need to rattle off 5 or six in a row and get healthy. They have a history of getting hot in the summer.

I do think the Rays are a good team. But it's just so early.

I'm intrigued right now about the Mariners. Unloaded alot of their better players and somehow got much better lol

Oh and shame on you for showing Teoscar Hernandez being a total TOOTBLAN. At least he made up for it with the eventual game winning HR that night.
