The Mets and their posse go to see Beltran
Wilpon, Mayana, and about 20 other Mets officials went to see Beltran in Puerto Rico yesterday. They will send out an offer later in the week to Scott Boras. My only question is why the hell did that many Mets officials go? It wasn't 20, but it was way more than there should have been. I bet the peanut guy in section 220 would have liked to go home for a day.Tags: None -

This is not unprecented tho i'm sure the number of ppl that went is a little surprising. I remember when the Blue Jays signed Roger Clemens. It wasn't Gord Ash that convinced him to go but rather Paul Beeston who was straddling the line between ownership and management at the time.
I think teams do this kind of thing to show their comittment to a player etc etc. It won't matter tho unless they offer a monster contract that no other team can match.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: The Mets and their posse go to see Beltran
I just cant see him going there unless it is an absurd a rod type deal. Meanwhile at the Tribune company. I think hes going back to Houston but if it gets past that Jan 8 date, I got to believe the Cubs get involved. Otherwise where is he going?
EDIT: I just heard on the SCORE 670 that Newsday is reporting they have offered him a contract in excess of 119 million. It would be a great signing.Last edited by poster; 01-04-2005, 11:22 AM.Comment

If they pull this off, I might be inclined to pay less attention to the Brooklyn Cyclones.... Who, incidentally, will be managed by none other than Mookie Wilson this year.Comment

Mookie also managed in the now defunct CBL (Canadian Baseball League) I think he managed for the Niagara Falls team. They were one of the better teams in that league IIRC.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
