Really cool moment for Bryce, but my word do these Cubs find new ways to lose road games. Blowouts. Heartbreakers. Everytime it's both the same and different. ugh. At least we get to play the Pirates now. Hopefully we can take one in PNC and pretend like Williamsport is actually a neutral site.

Yeah, but it'll count as a road game probably so look for Josh Bell to heat up again.

As a baseball fan, that was pretty awesome by Harper. As a Braves fan, I’d have been fine with a K there.

And as a Cubs fan it blows.

EDIT: But I was really already resigned to a loss when we're relying on Derek Holland in a bases loaded situation against Bryce Harper. Very low odds the Cubs were gonna salvage it so it might as well be a majestic, rain-bringing walkoff grand slam.

Hard to fathom the Cubs lefty "ace reliever" is Derek freaking Holland who now has a 6 FIP, 5 xFIP, and an ERA somewhere in between. He has no business being on a playoff contending team and probably no business on any MLB roster.

that game was entirely on Joe. You Push Yu another inning and then you only need 1 from Wick + by pushing him you don't PH Kemp for him thus you replace Happ with Kemp for defensive purposes Cubs easily win.

I was thinking the same. I know I'm usually quick to pounce on Joe, but Darvish was dominating and he's removed after 92 pitches? After what's been happening to Lester/Hendricks/Hamels with all the short starts lately? Why not ride Darvish, save the bullpen? All so Tony Kemp can beat a harmless ground ball into the grass? Then Wick has to clean up the 8th and gets sent back out for the 9th where the defense promptly hangs him out to dry. Why not start Strop with a clean 9th if he's your "closer?" If you look at where Ian Happ was playing on the two grounders that kicked off his glove, you can probably blame the shift a little bit there as well.

Team is hot. Santana is even hotter. He's blue hot.

Can't start an opener against a team like that. Oh well pretty meaningless game though, except to twins fans.

He's been good against Lefties. Surely you didn't want Strop against Harper.

                          Harper is just really good.

man that's a heart-breaker. Cards lose and about to be in 1st place with a series with the Pirates coming up.

That was also one of the flukier innings I can recall. standard groundball to the SS, then 2 just off the glove of the 2B who an average defender would've gotten to easily and then bomb.

The HBP on Hoskins was pretty unlucky too. Wasn't necessarily a good pitch but Hoskins was pretty clearly looking slider and was fooled bad enough he almost swung. Strop has just got so much run his fastball can be tough to control

I actually would prefer Strop against Harper because I don't think Derek Holland is a major league pitcher right now. There was also the issue that, even if Holland got Harper out it was only 2 outs, then you need to face Realmuto and there was nobody in the bullpen ready for that. What do we stall for time so Steve Cishek can get in there to blow the game at that point?

I know it sucks for Cubs fans...but that Harper slam is one if the coolest baseball moments this season. He looked like a little leaguer running the bases with his excitement.
