They Yankees are donating a million dollars to the tsunami relief fund, very class move on their part. But, of course, there are going to be a couple idiots in the group who go and turn a generous act on the part of the Yankees into a villainous act. I know, yeah, I hate the Yankees, too. But they are donating money to an area that was just ravaged by a natural disaster.

How can you be so self-centered to think that everything that the Yankees, or any sports franchise, or any individual athlete, for that matter, are doing this solely for their own benefit and to make themselves look good? What does every damn thing in this world that revolves around the Yankees have to be evil and vile? Believe it or not, no matter how you want to see it in your narrow little world, that isn't the case. No one is pointing out these acts and trying to "one-up" one another. Athletes and sports teams run under a microscope, you should know this by now. If some NBA players, some MLB team, whoever, is going to donate a large amount of money, of course it is going to get attention. How the hell does it hurt you that Selig makes one little comment complimenting the Yankees for doing a very noble thing? But, oh no, everything just has to be Red Sox/Yankees.

How much money have you donated?

          God, you make me sick.
          Exactly.

I don't see why everyone has to turn the Yankees into the source of evil in this univers. They are people to... just like everyone else. They just choose to spend more money than others and George takes advantage of a flawed system because he wants to see his team win. But this is about charity.... not about the Yankees spening money on players.

If I heard the Red Sox were donating money... although I hate them with a passion being a Yankee fan... I would think it is a very generous donation in a time of need. When it comes down to it... every baseball player is a person. They are all aware of what is going on and they all are compasisonate (hopefully)... so why must people like Dce1288.... who makes it seem that the Yankees organization murdered his dog..... make it into a negative thing.
Really... who cares who it is that donates the money as long as its donated??

What I think would be a cool thing is if each team donated $10,000 for each game they won this year. That would total $24.3 million by the end of the year if my math is correct (30 teams x average of 81 wins x 10,000.

Lets stop debating about the Yankees and just hope more teams decide to donate money towards this tragedy.

So what you're saying Deeman is that if the Sox had been the one donating 1 million and not the Yankees that you'd have started your little thread in honor of that donation. That's baloney. You started the thread because you're a yankee cheerleader and you wanted us all to know how great your team was for it. The very first thread begins with these words... "the yankees take advantage"... alas, sometimes good things come about when the yankees take advantage, such as this case, but usually it just leads to everyone getting screwed.

I recognized early how unpopular I'd be by answering this but I really don't care. In the grand scheme of things our little debate here is so unimportant it cant even be quantified.

But as much as everyone says its not a competition there's this constant theme of people asking 'how much have you donated?'... from my position it goes without saying that we should donate and everyone that donates should be applauded, but when people try and turn around and point out how great they are by donating and start comparing their donations I get annoyed... again I state... IT MISSES THE POINT ENTIRELY.

First of all..... "the very first thread begins with these words... "the yankees take advantage"... alas, sometimes good things come about" that makes absolutely no sense.

Second... if it was so unimportant to you... why even respond in the first place? Did you just want to cause trouble?

Third... I dont think the Yankees' donation was ever compared to anything. Show one spot in that article where the Yankees donation was compared to another teams'.

And finally... yes I would have made a thread about any team donating money because life is bigger than baseball.... and it is a nice thing to hear in the days where money is so important to everyone that a team donates money in disasterous times. Besides... how would you even know what or what I wouldn't make a thread on? Can you read my mind?

Please I ask you to not even respond anymore in this thread because this was supposed to be a feel-good story about a donation... not you calling attnetion to yourself and becoming "unpopular" just because you dislike a certain team. Please.... spare us all.

Edit: Just to add on... your original post said

"Personally, I'm growing tired of everyone having to point out what they're donating and how much like it's a friggin contest"

I dont see where or who said it was a contest? Reallly where do you come up with this stuff?
